Yorkeys Knob, QLD 4878

My first bike ride from Cairns city was to Yorkeys Knob some 38 years ago and I have been coming back ever since as it has so much to offer, a great beach, popular for Kite surfing, a marina and boat club and an 18 hole golf course and only a 15 minute drive to Cairns city. My children went to the kindy , one of the best there is. It has so much to offer and that is why people choose to live here and the name?
It has a large hill (also known as Knob) at the northern end of the beach and many years ago a well known Fisherman (nicknamed Yorkey) from Yorkshire , England lived on the hill, hence it became known at the time as Yorkey's hill then later renamed as a suburb to Yorkeys Knob

If you like planes all day and night this is the suburb for you. Dirty and nothing to do. Terrible traffic morning.

The suburb has the best beach and foreshore in the cairns region. The lower density of housing, wide streets and convenient local food retailers make life easy for visitors and residents, throw in a world class yacht club and outstanding golf club to complete perfection in the tropics. The homes on the knob at yorkeys offers world class seaside living with breath taking views of the surrounding natural beauty. World travellers who love Hawaii for it constant sea breezes and mountains find living high on the Knob to be equal or better. Constant sea breeze cool no matter how tropical the day. Good schools, handy local shops, huge yacht club with good meals and facilities, good beaches and a trouble free suburb makes this area great for all kinds of families.

One of those Cairns sleepy beachside suburbs that thrives in it's isolation. Not yet a commercially developed suburb, the future for Yorkeys is bright and has nearby access to major shopping at Smithfield and a short journey 'up the hill' to Kuranda and the Tablelands and away from the highway.

Golf course, fishing, marina and parks make this a top leisure spot. Local state school as well for the young family.
