Drouin, VIC 3818

If you have been there 15+ years you will hate it. If you have been there less than that you will like it perhaps even love it. Do not move to Drouin from Melbourne expecting the area to have the infrastructure to keep up with the growing population. If you live on south east side there's basically one road to get to any shops . I was told by someone from suburban Melbourne that the traffic on Main Street during school drop off and pick up times was worse than daytime Melbourne traffic. I used to avoid going down the street during those times if possible and other people I knew would do the same.
There's a mural on a walkway of a guy walking his dingos; a regular seen about the place when Drouin still used to have a country town feel. It doesn't feel like that anymore.
Yes it has basic shops, good schools, nice parks etc but if you're looking for peace and quiet do not move to Drouin. Glad I don't live there anymore!

My husband and I moved to Drouin last year from Boronia. I am a stay at home mum and my husband works in the finance industry. We had looked around the Berwick Pakenham and Officer and then decided to look out a bit further. I remember driving through drouin once or twice years ago and Iit was not memorable. When we looked at Drouin we found that the town had changed a bit, it is not a big town but it has two big supermarkets and we really liked the parks and the country feel. We have chosen to enroll our kids at the catholic school and our oldest child has just started. So far we are really enjoying the feeling of being out of the city.
We bought a house and land package just out of town and so far are pretty happy with it. We have met some neighbours and gotten to know a few people in town and for the most part the people here are more friendly than in Melbourne. Traffic can be an issue around school time through the town but apparently there are plans for a bypass to be built? I would recommend moving to Drouin, it is definitely better than living in the suburbs.

Drouin was once a quiet country town, however over the years this has changed. Unfortunatley the quiet atmosphere has made way for constant dog barking from numerous irresponsible owners and hooning cars. It is a shame as it is lovely town. I would not recommend living here unless you lived away from the main township on some land.

Beautiful, quiet, undulating green hills. Friendly people and low crime. A twin town with Warragul means that between the two you can access almost every service you need. Some areas have the NBN already. People take care of their gardens and there is a great community spirit. Has its own successful cricket, football, netball, tennis and golf clubs. Only an hour to anywhere in Melbournes East (peak hour in melb aside) and an hour to the beautiful bass coast beaches. For the price, I would buy here over anywhere in the clogged up outer suburbs of Melbourne. Great for those who can occasionally work from home.

Charming township in a beautiful rural setting. We are only an hour from the beaches in Summer, an hour and a half from the snow in Winter and an hour from the city for shows and sporting events. Yet we are away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne's sprawling outer east. Drouin has a charming country town feel about it.

Really lovely town! It's nice, quiet, friendly locals, good public transport, beautiful restaurants and wineries. Perfect for winter time, we're so close to the snow and a 5-10 mins drive to Warragul. The only negative thing is there are no bike lockers at Drouin train station. I love riding my bike around the town and using the bike track but wish I could use it to and from the train station everyday. It's such a busy station and a lot of people commute to Melbourne for work.

Has everything a community needs. Great distance to Melbourne and fantastic medical facilities close by. Great golf course, bowls aned hockey.
Clean and green, close to snow, sea and East Gippy lakes.
What a spot! Reasonable property prices and a great choice to boot.
Friendly people have made this the right choice for us after our move from the city.

Feels slightly old, dated architecture and hasn't worn well with time, gives the town a rather distant feel. There are some nice parts which are newly built but there are still the old houses that are refusing to come up to date! Not a lot going on in Drouin town, you need to get to Warragul, the next town over to get anything done, and even then that's not big enough to service most peoples weekly needs for shopping etc. Definitely need a form of personal transport to live here, public transport isn't nearly up to speed enough. Local doctors are very good as a big plus operating a late night facility to the community. Generally a town for retiree's, definitely not for young families with teenage children as there is nothing to entertain them. Some petty vandalism is probably catalysed by this fact as there is nothing to entertain the younger generation. We found there was a number of yobbish young adults between Drouin and Warragul, which makes the town seem quite foreboding to anyone settling into the area. Also as a small note, shops in Drouin seem sleepy and customer service is not a positive thing whereas Warragul town has a very much different charm and is quite nice for a day to wander around. Don't go to the bakery in Drouin, make your own 'fresh' sandwiches.... As far as Real Estate is concerned spruiking in this area is out of control, with some agents reporting it 'Close to the city with old town charm' It is k's away from the city and we didn't find the charm in the abundance they'd have you believe! This town won't change for at least a hundred years as the locals won't let it go through the transformation it desperately needs. As usual with most areas these days in Australia the locals have also noticed that other areas have had noteable price increases in properties. They have decided that Drouin should also have gone up in price, so beware, some sellers in Drouin believe that 3 bedroom wooden hut on half an acre they're selling is indeed worth double to three times what they paid for it a few years ago. As a rule of thumb, the price you see, immediately knock off thirty percent and negotiate down from there, that way you may buy something that's remotely close to it's true value.

Moved up from Pakenham 8 years ago onto a small parcel of land. Took me awhile to get used to but once settled realised its a great little town. Although Drouin doesnt boast the best in restaurants Warragul is only 10 min down the road. I like drouin because you can still find plenty of carparking around Xmas. There are also more cafe's and crafty shops popping up. On the down side rent is increasing because people are moving up here escaping the busy towns.There is plenty of childcare, realestates, schools, churches, supermarkets, bakerys,banks,pizza and fish n chip shops. There is a great country market once a month in beautiful Civic Park where you can find plenty of carparking. A great bike/skate ramp for the kids. Trains right in the middle of the towns CBD.

Nice place to live, people are friendly. Little or no violence. biggest issue might be bogan element and FWD element combined with jock culture. Nothing unusual for country towns these days. schools good and plenty of choice. Chow shopping is plentiful. abundant supermarkets, restaurants and nightlife is limited.
