"The Edge of Town"
The Esplanade is a long straight road running from the Government buildings precinct of Darwin, to Daly Street. On its western side it embraces the waterfront, with a lovely grassed parkland area cushioning the transition from city to ocean. The park has picnic benches and a playground as in festival times will have a stage erected in it for free concerts. The other side of the road contains a handful of historic buildings (which survived Cyclone Tracy in some way) and high rise hotel and apartment blocks.
