Is it time for the state government to take back control of Victorian utility companies?
At the time I was a big believer in privatisation of the utility companies but now, boy what a mistake. These are essential services and we should have price controls in place. Government doesn't have the profit requirements of big business.
And god help the pensioners in winter!

Essential services should be held by the people, for the people.
What they really need are some proper remuneration so smart people are put into managing them. At the same time, there needs to be harsher penalties in place for people who end up mismanaging them -> so it all comes back to personal risk management

A few people will be scared and not apply. Others will be confident and smart and make sure it's ran properly :)
I also think part of the problem lies with the poor skills of our politicians who drive a lot of the direction for our essential services. This area of our public service needs some serious fixing up.
