There is great opportunities for families. Everything is easily accessible and Melbourne is only 1.5 hours drive.

Majority of workers at power stations no longer have work...its slowly dying as many folk have left for Qld etc...very little new projects on the go main st of Morwell has many empty shops or 2nd hand shops...

Biggest dump except for minor locations are ok. If you find a good spot, stay there as the losers can’t afford to live there.

I just bought a house here, big block, big house, cheap price. I have been visiting Morwell for the past few years. In this time I have witnessed huge improvements in beautification of the main streets, building of new schools and education facilities, new office buildings, people renovating their houses, new estates. The parks and gardens are delightful. Jump on a train to Melbourne if you want it, return to a comfortable country town existence. The city area is getting busier all the time. Certainly not as dead as it used to be. People are upbeat and neighbours are friendly and respectful. People are out walking, running and riding their bikes on the paths. They are enjoying the place. It has its rough, run down areas, but then again, so does South Yarra and Fitzroy. On the whole, most of the place isn't run down, but poorer and less fortunate people have to live somewhere, don't they? Many new families are moving to the area, attracted by the convenient facilities, of which there are plenty. People uncomfortable with Morwell in previous posts are just negative Nancy's who won't be happy, and always have something to complain about, wherever they live. I have not witnessed any crime since I have been here or over the time I have visited. I feel safe here and go walking at night and I don't feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

P.S. I wouldn't have purchased here if I couldn't see potential and a place heading in the right direction. Morwell is a beautiful place.

Lived here for a year, worked here for 3 so far. When I lived here in a cheap unit, I was harassed, had trash left all over front lawn constantly (not just mine, neighbours too), was always on edge because of all the crackheads screaming down the street at 3am. The final straw was when the servo up the road opened 24/7 and the druggies decided to break into my next door neighbours car, and tried to take pictures of me through my bedroom window (which had a closed curtain).
I also had several people come to the unit and ask for drugs (as apparently the last tenant sold them); and the previous tenant had actually refused to leave and police had to kick him out.
Drove past it the other day to see if the area had improved or not and there were cop cars out the front of it, so I'd say not.

Recent stabbings and drug busts have most of the towns people on edge.

Would avoid if you have kids , are single or just not cut out for ghetto life. The reason I think I had so many incidents with crackheads was because I was living by myself. But as stated previously, the crime rate has only been climbing and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

Very glad I dont live here anymore.

Not much to do for entertainment or do

Morwell has become a decaying corpse of what was once a nice town. I grew up and lived there until i was 21 and then got my freedom ticket by joining the army in 1985. initially i would return to visit my parents every year or so and after each successive year i could see the town in decline, more and more shops would be closed with plywood covering where windows once had been and graffiti adorning many areas of the town. The death knell of Morwell was well and truly sounded when the State government developed a new found enviromental conscience and decided that coal fired power stations were so mid 20th century! with the privatisation of the power production facilities and their eventual closure the vast majority of Morwells inhabitants who had any form of marketable skills saw the writing on the wall and left for greener pastures. The last time i was in Morwell was in 2018 and the rot had well and truly set in, with rampant unemployment evident and seedy looking characters milling around "mad valley" shopping center. Apparently power generation has been replaced with methamphetamine as the new growth industry in town, bringing with it all that that entails. As for housing being affordable i suggest that that's as a result of the place being a ghetto with no redeemable features in fact i'm surprised that people aren't being offered free housing to move there! All i can say to anyone contemplating moving to Morwell is to avoid it like the plague, it's a racist drug riddled red neck hole that is dying a somewhat unnatural death.

There are some great things about living in Morwell.
The housing is incredibly cheap and applying for rentals is a much faster process than other towns. If you have access to a car, you can easily spend your free time exploring all that Gippsland has to offer. Your weekend drives will be amazing! All the beautiful sights from the national parks, great places to take pictures, explore with families and just really great country roads with beautiful hills.

However there are some things to consider.

Living in a small town in a rural area means that there is some lack of diversity and although there are lovely people there, more often then not you will come across people who are very culturally intolerant to put it lightly. If you are a p.o.c or someone who really dislikes intolerance in this spectrum you may struggle.

Although nothing personally happened to me while I was living in the town, you are often at a level of heighten awareness and it can be quite draining. Finding yourself always worrying about having doors and cars locked, even when you are home. More than once we experienced random people walking into our yard and came home one day to find someone trying to look through our window. This was the main reason I decided to move. You will hear fighting and will come across police often. My advice would be to look at areas closer to the train station and main shopping centre.

All in all there are good things and bad and there and good people and bad people, like in every other town.

I just lived here for a year, my house has been broke in twice. Thanks to my neighbour who called police on the second time. So nothing lost but 4 windows broke the second time.
It's suits people don't have a job/someone can be home all the time. If you r single n have a job, try to avoid .

I have lived in Morwell all my life and I've never had an issue, sure there is unscrupulous people around but just like any town I'm sure if you look for them, you'll find them.
There are areas you would not buy in , but if you have a good look around there are certainly nice spots.
Easy to get around & good public transport

Before moving to Morwell I had read some reviews on Homely, which were really dated and painted the town as a place which was going nowhere. When I came to look at the houses here, I was pleasantly surprised, the people were very friendly, all facilities were within reach, including the Mid Valley shopping centre which has Village cinemas and a Bunnings on the side. Add to that, a government business hub that is being built here, which has people in an upbeat mood. The town aims to be a garden city, and there are gardens everywhere. To be honest, with the property prices here, snap up a place, you won’t be disappointed. By the way, Morwell is listed as one of the top 10 places in Australia to buy a house in , if you are after affordable housing. With the beaches and mountains close, what are you waiting for?

Morwell there are no words except, waste of time town with nothing to offer.... total ghost town on weekends. Wouldn't reccomend living there at all.

Morwell has been a bit down on its luck for some years. However, it's inexpensive housing, proximity to Melbourne and good educational/sporting facilities mark it as a place with potential.
It has all the base retail, medical and professional services and is very close to nearby national parks and beaches. And the Federation University campus is only a 15 minute drive or bus trip, Only 9km east is the much larger town of Traralgon with a strong cafe culture, something Morwell does lack. The town is now the subject of significant Government attention following the closure of Hazelwood Power Station, and there are plans to invest in better facilities and urban improvements. The hourly train service and duplicated freeway to Melbourne is also great.

If you are considering moving to Morwell - Dont.
I have lived in Morwell for a while and let me tell you, it is not worth it. I consider Morwell to be a wasteland consisting of people and lack of livlihood. The general economy in this area is going downhill rapidly due to closing business' and little to no employment opportunity.
Morwell has a shockingly high crime rate; the police are on my street 24/7 and it is not safe at all at any given time of day. The drug epidemic here is growing by the minute and the number of people it is affecting it also shocking.
The shopping is limited to mostly mid valley( shopping centre) and it has some alright shopping options where as the town itself have only few shops to choose from. On weekends you would be lucky to find a cafe or restaurant open at midday and it is like a ghost town.
And if you are super lucky, you might run into a friendly person. Public transport is good as there is a train station and bus interchange that run frequently on every day of the week.
If you are looking for a comfortable and stress free life, Morwell is definitely NOT for you.
Avoid this town like the black plauge unless you would like to get on drugs and become a rambling toothless centrelink bludger who harasses people on the street for ciggarettes and bus money as a 9-5 job then by all means go right ahead.

Affordable housing. 1 in 33 homes are robbed, 20 percent unemployment, probably much more since Corona now. Not many industrial factories. Car break ins, damage to property and theft is rife. Australian paper mill pollutes the air with a foul stench close to egg fart on a weekly basis. Town is out dated and shabby overall. Has some excellent schools though. Not Kurnai obviously. Great state park and parks in general. Fishing is awesome down here without any doubt. Shops are a stone throw away in every direction including local shopping centre. Can't wait to move out a little further though.

I have lived here for a year now and i just love Morwell wish i had moved here years ago .We had the fires and for a few months it was a bit smokey but its fine again now and really speaking more pollution on the Melbourne Streets with traffic.As a retired person i see quite a few child care centres but do not know if people have a hard time getting in them.Morwell township is so pretty the rose garden is just beautiful we have a new skate park that the children seem to be using it a lot .There is everything here for a family sports the pictures ten pin bowling swimming pool golf course .Customer service is excellent people say hello and talk the streets are clean and the hills are so pretty . the train ride to the city is very pleasant .If you cannot find what you want in Morwell it is only a short drive or bus ride to Traralgon and they have all the big shops there .

just got everything i need. only a bit smelly coz of traralgons mill. I love the art area. coffee is great and i love mid valley and the pitchers.

My introduction to the neighbourhood... One of my first nights living here my neighbours set fire to the road outside my house. They thought it was hilarious, I wondered what I'd gotten myself in to.
Things haven't improved much since then, other than those particular neighbours moving out. Rude children yelling out foul things at complete strangers, random drunk people showing up on my doorstep or having fights outside my house, hoons driving around like maniacs at all hours, tomcats fighting all night (guess I can't really expect responsible pet owners in this sort of area), people using my yard as a rubbish bin, breaking things (including my fence), the stench from the nearby power plants, the list goes on.
It's not all like that, of course. I just live in a bad area (although there do seem to be some nice people around, they just don't stand out as much as the others). The shopping centre isn't bad, especially for way out here, and the rentals are affordable. There seem to be a lot of schools, I don't have kids so I don't know if they're any good or not. I'm sure there are other redeeming features that I'm just not aware of. Personally I just can't wait to move out of here.

I have lived in Morwell all my life and althought like every other town it has it's down points, Morwell does have a lot to offer. Within a short drive to both Traralgon and Moe, it is a great centural town if you are unable to find what you need. In a way Morwell is devided up into 3 ageas because of the rail line and the distance of the midvalley shopping center from Morwell's centural CBD. Morwell provides all kinds of housing for most tastes and budgets, aswell as a growing business sector that always seams to grown in turn with close bye Tratalgon. Althought Morwell may not have jobs for every chosen profession, it does however provide training facilities for a lot of trade professions and is only a short drive from the Monash Uni at Churchill. If you are looking for property in Morwell there are a few areas that are known to be trouble spots none more then the area near and including Beattie Cres, or as it is morn know "The Vortex" All in all Morwell is a wonderful place to live, just pick your spot carefully.

Run down area I hate going there... yes it is cheap but for a reason. Power station on your doorstep and the weirdest down and outs I have see. I avoid as much as possible...

Morwell has everything...all types of architecture...from as early as 1878 when the train line was completed to Melbourne...housing is still cheap and yet there shopping is good, there are a nice selection of restaurants,some great antique shops,n shoes n food etc etc...The train whizzes of to Melbourne regularly and often for those who like the city life. Morwell is only an hour or so from the snow and the surf, and only minutes to lakes, ancient rainforests, National parks.....its a beautiful area around a happy town

Well, Morwell, what can i say...BEST TOWN EVER.

Full of energetic people and a nice town, if you want prefection, Morwell is it, hahaha.

Morwell has virtually everything anyone could ever want. The houses are cheap, neighbours are friendly, there is very little crime, the schools are great, the shopping is fantastic, its a very beautiful area and most of the noise generated by traffic, trains, etc. is drowned out by birds singing.

Morwell isn't perfect though and has problems like the lack of ISPs providing adsl2+ which has resulted in slightly higher than normal internet prices. Mobile coverage is great for the most part but there are black spots and it rains all the time. To be fair though the National Broadband Network will fix up the internet before long, the mobile black spots are few and far inbetween and the weather here means we never have to water the garden.

I guess in the grand scheme of things my only real issue is over paying for my internet connection. But as that will soon be fixed up by the NBN I'd have to say Morwell is about as close to perfection as you can get without paying through the nose for it.
