Redland Bay, QLD 4165

I was very reluctant to move to Redland Bay - I had been transferred to work in Cleveland (from Sydney) and my employer had organised rental accommodation for me in Redland Bay. When I first searched for it on a Google Map I noticed that it was about 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD. I have always been an inner-city dweller and didn't look forward to living so far from the city.

I have now fallen in love with Redland Bay. I have no need to leave the local area or go to the city because everything I need is so close by. The big shops are just down the road at Victoria Point. From my house I can walk to the waterfront in 10 minutes and I do this on most days to unwind and to soak up the fresh air. Everything here is so clean and green and the people are so friendly and laid-back. It really feels like a country town separated from the hustle and bustle and so it's strange to think that the city is only a 1/2 hour drive away. This is a special place and I am so glad that I have been able to live here.

One day when I start a family I hope to bring them up here. The local kids ride their bikes to school (I never ever saw that in Sydney) and the kids all play safely in their front yards. Another thing I noticed is that people feel okay about leaving things out the front of their house like outdoor settings and bbqs. That tells you how safe this place is because I have never seen anyone even leave a pot plant out the front of their house where I used to live.

This place is like a hidden secret. Hopefully the council stops allowing too many more houses to be built here because it is nice and quiet and very peaceful.

Have some fish and chips by the water one day and enjoy the views and breezes. I can guarantee you'll love it in Redland Bay.

It is unfortunate this place is so poorly designed. If you want to spend 45mins each morning queuing to drive to the next suburb this is the place for you. The peak hour commute to Brisbane City (2hrs) or Logan (1.5hrs) where the only work is found is next to impossible thanks to the traffic queues and lack of public transport options just to leave the suburb. The main road to Victoria Point (where the only decent grocery shops are found) is being duplicated to 4 lanes so expect constant traffic holdups and nightly machinery noise for next few years. Rates are extortionate, we couldn’t believe the difference. Trees and parks are nice, but many have no lighting for evenings and safety. we have had problems with youths at night using these places for no good. We’ve had 5 neighbours having breakins over last couple of years just in the surrounding couple of streets, stolen burnt out cars ditched in close by bushland and scared off someone on driveway breaking into our locked car. Mozzies are a problem after rain, but we’ve found walking in these times in long sleeves/pants sufficient. Plus factors are the concreted paths for cycling and walking, not overly shaded but they do connect different estates. Overall, once you’re here it’s quite hard to get to other places so make sure you love it as you’ll be spending a lot of time essentially locked into the suburb.

So many beautiful pockets of untouched native bush land with gorgeous views of SMBI.

Redland bay is a very family friendly town. There’s plenty of schools, parks and shops.

Beautiful and the best place to live I wouldn’t move ever

Take a drive through the center of Cleveland and take note of the number of businesses closed. Council is very much pro property developers and allow anything to go. Council rates and fees are over the top for services received. Pedestrian infer structure is almost non existent with what ever priorities there are given to motor vehicles. Having said that road infer structure is poor and combined with council allowing developers to do as they please it is getting worse. Road corridors are being closed off and handed to the developers so future looks bleak. Employment opportunities are near non existent. Train to the city is slow and expensive. On a good note there are some very good state and private schools in the area.

Moved here around 8-9 years ago, loved the place, laid back, scenic, lots of parks, easy access to the islands nearby, yet only 30 mts to the city by road on a weekend, things have changed though, poor management means the Cleveland CBD is almost comatose, except for the restaurants by the jetty. Not very business friendly, and the slowest internet since the dial-up era, have a lot of friends complain when they visit , they love the locale and hate the connectivity, thankfully internet is 1/4 our prices abroad, if you plan to visit get onto a good roaming plan.
If you work in the city and are planning a move, get ready for the train commute and lose 2 hrs of your life each day,

Great place to visit or retire to if you like to take things slow...

Moved to Redland Bay from busy Melbourne and love it. The Bay is close by and houses are affordable for a bayside suburb. People are friendly and there are some nice parks. Infrastructure is being added with more to come with Weinum Creek and Shoreline Developments starting very soon. Currently we have the Red Edge shopping Centre which has about 15 shops and also we have Redland Bay Village which is our small town centre which is slowly growing. We had a 7Eleven and drive through coffee club open a few months ago. There is also the Donald Rd shops which has expanded to allow for more shops. The barge from Weinum creek can take you to the small islands of the mainland, furthermore Brisbane CBD is a 50 min drive and Gold Coast 45min drive.

Still laid back and friendly. Good go families. Water at your door steps fishing sun and fun at an affordable price.
