"Pretty town.. shame about the junkies"

We only spent 10 months in stanthorpe in 2010. It was one of the cheaper areas we have lived but with good reason.

Logan Steele as in Stanthorpe Realestate is a complete total and utter a$$hole! The realestate refused to get a plumber out to fix our toilet as there was a big tree in front and the roots were in the pipe work. The plumber said it was urgent as did the RTA as we had no toilet because the realestate decided to cut the pipes to the down stairs toilet instead of fixing a water leak from the cistern (still charged us the same rent even though advertised as 2 bathrooms).

We breached them and they did nothing for 2 weeks except on the expirary of the breach they sent us a notice saying we adandoned the property even though we were still living there with no toilet! I had not even given them a notice of intention to leave!

Aside from that the attitudes of the elderly stink in that town! I witnessed an old woman run down an old man in a wheel chair on the crossing out side Aus Post.. She knew she did it because she pulled over.. once she saw others come to help she just drove off! I also had an old lady reverse into me while I was standing next to my car inside my parking space lines.. When I yelled at her to stop she told me I had no right to be standing there.. yup.. no right to stand next to my own car in my own parking lines.

On our street we always had glass bottles thrown against out house and on the road out front, idiots doing burn outs in their bogan cars and street parties that had to be broken up by police numerous times. Peoples bins and cars were being set on fire during these parties .. it was crazy! Just when we thought we made friends with a person at the end of our street. We invited her into our home as I did work from home and she was a customer.. turns out she was hiding her pills and needles all around our house.. Didnt find them until we cleaned everything when we moved.. saddest part was she left nappies at our house so she had spares for her son.. they were not spares.. they were stuffed with drugs!

As for eating.. everyone goes on about Annas Restaurant.. we went there for new years and the food was bloody horrible!

The only good thing we experienced there was Dr Beata. She was lovely and the best doctor we have ever had and I think that is the only reason we stuck around as long as we did. She bulkbilled too and listened and gave you the time of day!

10 months in this town was 10 months too long! I will never go back.. we moved to warwick and killarney too cuz we liked the area but same things .. except Killarney everyone knows your business and if you are not born and bred there brace yourself for a bad time unless you are just visiting or passing through!

I wish where it says who do you recommend this area for there was no one as an option!

"Cold and beatiful"

Lovely country town located away and high above the sea, breathing in clean country mountain air. Beautiful countryside similar to Armidale very green and hilly featuring open country and bushland, nice homes, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere are all a big part of Stanthorpe.

My favourite part of Stanthorpe is the unique climate, Freezing winters with frost and some with a fall of snow(different from the rest of Queenslands climate). All seasons are quiet unique here, whilst autumn brings all the bright colours into life, summers are mild and comfortable and spring being a mixture of all seasons.

I personally think this country city is a great place to live or to visit, overall its one of the best parts of Queensland Australia(in my opinion), excaping the heat and enjoying an alternative lifestyle.
Pros
  • Friendly locals and lovely green surrounding countryside
  • Unique Climate(due to its elevation)
  • Relaxed atmosphere and great shops.
Cons
  • Low to average property value
  • Fairbit of rain (especially summer)
  • Not a whole lot of work for the individuals

"Relaxing Lifestyle with Wineries at your front door"

I have lived at Glen Aplin where you will find many excellent wineries within a 3 or 4 minutes drive. There are also a couple of fine restaurants close by. Glen Aplin is peaceful yet very convenient to the town centre of Stanthorpe - only a 10 minute drive away. The views to the mountains are fantastic and gorgeous sunsets are plentiful. The town of Stanthorpe caters for most of your needs and boasts a great market one Sunday in the month. Along with all the festivals throughout the year and the year 'round availability of fine wines, cheeses, olives, etc - you'd find Stanthorpe and it's surrounds are hard place to beat for a relaxed, friendly and peaceful lifestyle.

"Stanthorpe - Interesting Granite Belt town."

Stanthorpe is located in the granite belt south west of Brisbane and at 1000m above sea level has been called one of the coolest places in Queensland. Because of these cool conditions Stanthorpe has an excellent wine industry with many wineries to visit and sample some fine wines. Many other stone fruits not normally associated with QLD are grown here such as apricots and peaches. Stanthorpe offers good accommodation and has excellent shopping facilities. The town is surrounded by national parks offering good bushwalking with plenty of opportunities to see some amazing flora and fauna. Home prices vary in the area with some good starter homes still available.
