Hope Island, QLD 4212

My young family and I (I'm turning 30) have lived on Hope Island for near on 3 years. In that time we have found it to be a great area to live. It's not all about Hope Island Resort or Sanctuary Cove which I really know nothing about living in as I'm not into gated estate living.
It's quiet, safe, clean and friendly. My wife bought the house without me going through it pre-settlement and I'm glad that she did. When I went for the first drive past the place I was delighted to see children playing basketball and soccer in the quiet street, people walking their dogs, fishing by the river etc. In alot of ways it took me back to when I was growing up in rural Qld and used to be out until the street lights came on and mum was calling me for dinner. Something that is becoming increasingly rare in society, let alone on the Gold Coast.

There is a good mix of units, housing of all levels, gated estates and otherwise. Marina facilities, shops, Dr's surgeries, etc. Topped off with easy access to the M1 so you can head north or south depending where you feel you need to be for work/ nightlife/surf.

We have found other residents to be really friendly and have made friends with numerous others around the place. Renovations have been commenced by numerous residents of various levels. Which I've found only makes it more pleasant to walk around. Traffic wise once you're off Hope Island Rd. it's all pretty quiet (Main arterial road from M1 to Runaway Bay....) We had thoughts of moving out of the area so as to be closer to my work but with further development set to begin in the area and its handy location to schools (Coombabah, Runaway Bay, Helensvale, Coomera) and Child care facilities (Hope Island, Paradise pt, Runaway bay, Coomera) it's fairly hard to imagine leaving when you've got it all at your finger tips... Fishing - 2 good boat ramps in the area, Water Skiing @ Santa Barbara, Golf Sanctuary Cove + Hope Island resort (I'm not into golf btw), Tennis, Shopping, Restaurants, Schools, Childcare, Parks - Jabiru Island and along the Rivers/canals

I also notice that some people mention the cost of living as an issue, but I'm yet to see anything over the top about it, rentals in the area are pretty well priced, fuel is the same as everywhere else with it's ups and downs, groceries etc are all much of a muchness.

All in all I find it comparable to other coastal locations I've lived in, and miles ahead with regards to the quiet safe streets. Something I never found when living in Kirra, Mermaid Waters, Coomera Springs and to a lesser degree Monterey Keys and Paradise Point. Housing in the area is well priced at the moment (Jan 2012) but I can't see it staying that way as the Gold Coast slowly picks itself back up.

Pretty sure I've summed it up as best I can. Best to check it out for yourselves. =)

You can not fault how beautiful and well kept this place is. But that's where it ends. There is not much to really see and do out in hope island. The restaurants and cafes all close far to early. Perfect if you are just happy to stay home every night.

Hope Island is well known for it's gold course/s. It is a beautiful environment, with a wonderful community.

Nothing to do except sit in your home. Friends of mine moved interstate to this suburb and soon moved to southern GC suburbs for some atmosphere within the community.

Anyone who has lived here over the past couple of decades will tell you that the place is changing. I believe that it will take another few years to be able to truly re-evaluate Hope Island as a suburb.
Boykambil is now a (Soon to be) thriving mini-metropolis.
North Point is almost finished, Cova too.
With new Marketplaces, new and increased numbers of residences and residents pouring in from everywhere... Hope Island 2020 is a new animal... We have to learn how friendly it is going to be.

One stagnating corner, Sanctuary Cove, is still being choked by overly expensive Body Corporate fees.
I have read the vehement arguments against Covian Criticism by residents on this website....WOW!

Not everyone is jealous of you fellows, not everyone wants to live near you (If your defensive attitude is anything to go by). Just accept that even wealthy people are not always interested in an expensive home with zero capital gains, spiteful neighbors whose sole social metric is financial and a body corporate system that is primarily interested in alleviating residents of their cash.

With the COVID influx to the Gold Coast from Southern residents, I truly hope that even Sanctuary Cove will see a change of face. It could sure do with it!

In closing.
With the one notable exclusion of Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island is absolutely fantastic on so many levels. The future is bright, I believe, and with the Coomera Connector and extra Railway Stations soon to be built (Opening the Brisbane Corridor even wider) , it's even brighter.

I lived in Hope Island - my house was broken into, my car was stolen from the front door, hooning is a huge problem, particulary as there is so many roundabouts, Hope Island is ok if you live in a gated area, otherwise forget it, I was glad to sell up and move away !

Hope Island is a beautiful, leafy suburb, with well maintained gardens and park areas. It is located at the northern end of the Gold Coast, and is close to the M1 motorway and only a short drive to beaches, schools and major shopping centers including Homeworld, Harbourtown and Westfield Helensvale.

Hope Island offers a wide selection of amenities, including, just to name a few:
Shopping - with three supermarkets (Coles, IGA and Foodworks), newsagency, butchers, bakeries, and many speciality shops;
Medical facilities - including doctors, chemist, and dentist;
Dining options - restaurants from fine dining to take away and MacDonalds;
Leisure activities - such as golf, fishing, tennis, gym, and boating.

It has a diverse array of housing options which cater to a wide demographic of people, from apartments, townhouses and family homes, to multi-million dollar prestigious properties. Hope Island offers gated estates for those who prefer the added security, as well as non-gated, for those who do not wish to be part of a body corporate. If you choose to live in an area with a body corporate, the fees range from $60p/w to over $200p/w. Thanks to the high level of security in and around the two main resorts of Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island Resort, Hope Island has a low crime rate.

There are no schools located in Hope Island, however there are several private and state schools nearby, such as St Stephens College, Helensvale State High & Primary, AB Paterson College, St Francis Xavier College, Coombabah State High & Primary, and Coomera Anglican College.

It has a reputation for being an expensive area to live in, however general living costs are the same as most other suburbs on the Gold Coast, with telephone, electricity and petrol costs all being the same. The Council rates are similar to other suburbs as well, and whilst you have the option of spending millions on a home, there are many housing options that rival surrounding suburbs such as Helensvale and Coomera, and I believe it offers better value for money than many suburbs further south, such as Mermaid Beach and Burleigh.

Overall, I believe the suburb is a beautiful and relaxed place to live and caters to a wide variety of demographics.

I grew up on Hope Island (the Boykambil part) from 1971 till 1989. My mother still lives there. It was always a safe, relaxed "holiday feeling" place and mostly that part still is. Be aware of the sandflies and mozzies in early summer evenings. 10 minutes to Runaway Bay shopping centre for the basics, 5 minutes to Coles shopping centre, and 18 minutes to Helensvale Westfield. Couple of nice restaurants at Sanctuary Cove and nearby there. Quiet and peaceful place but I don't know about the cost of living in the resorts.

We've been staying in Platinum Waters for almost two years now, and since the new home builders grant has doubled for Queenslanders, construction of new houses have taken off on almost all of the empty properties, resulting in a restless and noisy neighbourhood seven days a week during daytimes. I have not enjoyed a single quiet day or afternoon for the past six months; not even Sundays are spared. Because construction workers have stirred up an industrialised aura around here while building houses, every Tom, Dick and Harry have now accepted generally that it is acceptable to make noise whenever. Not recommended for night shift workers!!!

After escaping the thrash of Sydney, we've been in Hope Island Resort for 7 years now. What a perfect place to live! It just keeps getting better. It is a friendly, safe little community, with everything at your fingertips.

Friendly security staff, pool, manicured gardens. It kind of allows you to forget about the real world. Housing stock is available for everyone from young couples to large families and retirees. Peace, quiet and tranquil.

You can use a boat, golf buggy or car to access most essentials.
