"Sydney madness to peaceful Wollongong"
Recently moved from Sydney to buy my first house yay...Believe it or not the travel from Western Sydney to city is the same comute from Wollongong to city and it's double the distance.Mt Pleasant is nestled amongst the escarpment and only a short drive to the beach.

"Mid-century heaven nestled in the trees looking out to the ocean"
Beautiful enclave of architecturally designed mid century houses on big leafy blocks. Lovely ocean views. Close to M1, UOW with easy access to Balgownie and Fairy Meadow shops by car. Great community here, especially for families with kids.

"Unbiased Review"
Mt. Pleasant is a meh of a suburb. Better than some places, and surely worse than others.
This review is unbiased opinion and not from some random folk supporting their place of residence.
I give this place an unbiased 1 star because:
- It's clearly overgrown and a majority of the homes were built in the 1970s and are therefore past their prime years. I wouldn't consider building in this suburb either because of the bloody awful slopes and dips which are an absolute nightmare disaster for any construction project.
- Trees, trees, trees and protected trees. Not only are councils incredibly fussy with removing natives, the massive trees in this part of the world also uproot plumbing and cause pipe blockages, not to mention are flammable and attract termites which eat your timber house structure to shreds.
- Ocean views are best enjoyed by the ocean and not from afar. You miss the ocean sounds from this location in replacement for sounds from 10 gear trucks braking down the mountain. I'd hate to know how much carcinogenic diesel particles have embedded themselves into the soil over the years. I wouldn't grow a fruit tree or a vegetable here or allow my kids to play with the contaminated soil.
- Rain flows down the mountain slopes and Mt. Pleasant is first to receive the brunt. Water runs down the sloped driveways and into garages if the door doesn't seal properly. Who wants that?
- Living here requires a vehicle or athlete leg muscles unlike more convenient locations in the Illawarra where decent shopping is less than 5 min walk away.
- Visually, I seldom hear visitors breaking their neck to visit Mount Pleasant when visiting Wollongong. Usually they opt for the Botanic Gardens, Wollongong Beach, the light house or somewhere closer to actual food. The WCC seem to invest most of the money elsewhere and probably for a reason? But again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some enjoy steep slopes, big gums and associated miniature wildlife.
My recommendation is to compare this place to others which do not have the listed problems above.
Ultimately you choose and decide where you would like to live. For me, there's too much wrong with this place to invest any money.
Good morning Graham you have clearly overanalyzed these reveiws they are merely trying to help people make a informative deccission not win a race in life to the top your negative banter is hilarious, please take a deep breath as this is not a competition im sure your suburb is wonderful and your life is perfect the envy of everyone so please dont attack those who are proud of where they reside with your nonsense negative remarks,if you would like to talk Carcinogens any household within 80klms of the Steelworks are breathing in pollutants find youself a hobby good day Sir.
Hi grahamI7 I'm moving from Northern Sydney with my family will be working in Wollongong cbd can you suggest a suburb close to cbd leafy, views would be nice but not overpriced as I think the gong is becoming ridiculously expensive oh and no riff raff lol thank you in advance

"The suburb that looks over the beautiful Illawarra"
An inner-city suburb located only minutes away from the Wollongong CBD. As the name suggests, it’s full of hills and unbelievably beautiful views.

"Its nice to be close and good to feel far"
Lived here 6yrs takes me 5min to get to work in Wollongong CBD and an easy trip home in the afternoon, houses are not on top of each other like most areas open and natural place to live with a view of the ocean just about everywhere beats looking at rooftops and the house across the road. One of the best public schools in the illawarra feels very much private.

"On another level..."

"Life is too short."
Fine for first home buyers but I recommend moving on after a few years and buying something better.
True that, my thoughts to''! you'd have to be cashed up alright''...
Young people want the bustling trendy life. Not grandmothers old house and snakes/spiders. No beef. Dear, just my opinion xx
I have to agree to disagree Mrs debbyk im 26yrs of age and i could see myself living in such a place its so fertile i think i would rather snakes/spiders then the snobby folk i live near, thats my 5c...
You're so young! Deary me. When you're my age you wished you would've enjoyed yourself a little more.
"Trees, gutters and hazard"
As an ex resident I hated cleaning my gutters all year. A lot of leaves in my garden! And a fire hazard too! It’s not like I could clear the trees around my home or anything; they’re protected natives. Eucalyptus are flammable!! So have a fire plan.
Thank you for your interpretation of piece and class. I maintain my opinion. Bless xx
Debbyk I bet you don't have a view from your retirement village..Eucalyptus are flammable is that suppose to be a con of this area!Peace be upon your cotton socks.
"Gorgeous Place"

I disagree, 2.2+ mil is the baseline up there in the beachy bits! I was looking at a house, and Sydney Siders were offering hundreds of thousands on top of the original price... could never afford!!! I think they prefer access to Sydney via the train than going into the gong...... Mostly Sydney folk
Thank you kindly i lived in North Sydney most of my life thats my point of view keep weather you agree or not makes no difference to me have a PLEASANT day and take care.
Hi Peter i think that was a response for me! Debby obviously cant read as i wrote a ONE BEDER LOOKING AT A WALL WILL COST YOU 1.8 read before you jump off your chain.
Dear, its no competition. Its just a review and information to help people make proper decisions when moving away to the gong. We dont want them to make a mistake do we? Take care... xx
Are you ok i can help you if you need to talk!based on your response you are very highly strung...May god bless you i wish you only the best and one day hope and prey to be as fortunate as you.
"Acquired Taste"
I’ve lived in enough places to be able to perform a decent and experienced comparison to Mount Pleasant from personal experience. My opinion is as follows:
While the area boasts some natural scenery, it is not at all what I would consider a prime location. For prime locations, look to higher value apartments and land value totalling over $1.8 million (sometimes house excluded) at Thirroul, Austinmer, Cliff Rd in Wollongong and seaside sections of Bulli.
The mountains and dense vegetation generally shadow homes enough to create mildew and mould production through the walls and wall cavity spaces. Don’t say “this doesn’t happen” because Mt. Pleasant provides the exact conditions for mould propagation: humidity, dampness and deprivation from sunlight.
For the elderly, there are no immediately close shopping centres or stores unlike Fairy Meadow, Balgownie, Wollongong, Thirroul and Wonoona - to name a few - where they must therefore rely on two or so hourly busses for public transport to carry an abysmal amount of groceries.
Lastly, the homes as you may notice have odd driveways which dip or conversely are situated on a private hill. Building on such topography requires experience and unnecessary costs which can be better spent on the materials if built elsewhere.
If your car has a good handbrake and you enjoy properties which are not level for the most part - you may revel in this suburb.
Oh I agree, , I would love to live in Austi but could never afford!!!
I am sure no one will agree with your opinion. Mount pleasant is a small heaven and the best neighbourhood in the area.
Yes your right about it's location, not the most convenient'', but apart from that , well...
Wow thats an impressive review Mr nicholas-j i must say you do have a great deal of time on those digits so much detail you must be from the upper end of town wow i hope to make it some day.lol
"Mount Pleasant the top end/high of the Illawarra...."
5 ⭐ Suburb 5min from Wollongong city and the beach,im proud to call it home beware of Balgownie the top part is very nice but the lower end is full of shady characters as for the beachy suburbs that are in close proximty to Belambi youll need to keep you valubles close,Mt Pleasant rated 9/10 and rated 3rd on the high end of the socioeconomic places to live haters stay down the bottom👇....ill do a follow up reveiw in 50years as im not moving...

"good good good"
is a lovely quiet and family friendly suburb located just off the Princes Hwy in the Sutherland Shire. It is bordered by Sylvania, Kirrawee and Oyster Bay and a lot of the homes have lovely water views or bush views. The shopping centre has been recently renovated and has everything you need, including cafe's and takeaway and a couple of restaurants. The local primary school is one of the best in the area. Many of the houses are currently undergoing renovations as the original owners have sold and downsized and new families have moved in. Most of the homes are very large, with some great architecture on display.
Ha, that's what I thought to! what the ...
As a minority, I cant walk the escarpment as well as the local athletes. I think there should be provisions for minorities who need the extra support and help to enjoy feeling inclusive. Cable cars will make us feel less vulnerable.
