St Albans, VIC 3021

St Albans is vile. Do not listen to any of the positive feedback. If you want a cheap place, sure, but be ready to live around low class people who litter and dump their rubbish wherever they please. Majority of houses are falling apart and there is no care, civic sense or community pride.

Bought my first house here in 2020 coming from Altona North which I've lived in for about 20 years. Shops/transport in St Albans are very close to where I live. You get a few shady characters here and there but just ignore and move on. I've had a few crime incidents on my property which was not a great experience. I've had to install cameras and a fence to defer intruders. Overall still a great area but just need to be mindful of the shady teens and vans

S.t Albans is the home of multiculturalism, which is great, it is a cheap area, has a bank, chemist, doctor, charcoal chicken (fast food) and a Korean resturant. but the positives end there. As a resident for over 15 years (on/off) the Junkie/Drugs/Alcohol problem is ongoing, you need to exercise caution almost always, it is very dodgy and prone to crackhead fights. At night it's not a place to be. It is a suburb that is still highly lacking and very low socioeconomically. Im on a waiting list to move

St Albans is changing - fast. There are so many great benefits to living here, and it’s well on its way to becoming a place that you’ll wish you bought into sooner. You know what I’m talking about - think Brunswick, think St Kilda, think Footscray.

Food is a massive reason to fall in love with St Albans. When it comes to groceries, you’ll find everything you need at a great price at Big Sam’s Market, KFL, the local IGA and Woolworths and heaps of other local stores. There are so many cuisines to sample at local restaurants, from Vietnamese (Fresh Chilli Deli in St Albans = the best banh mi in Melbourne!) to Indian to Lebanese to Korean to Eastern European.

There’s plenty of parks and green space to stretch your legs and get out of the hustle and bustle of the main street. There’s even a community garden you can get involved in! It’s an affordable place to buy, even today - I challenge you to find better value in a home at the $500-600k mark with fantastic proximity to the hospital, the airport, the city, places to visit such as Brimbank Park and bigger shopping centres such as Highpoint. Awesome place for families to live affordably and quietly while still being able to head out elsewhere with ease. Lots of daycare centres and schools, from cute kindergartens all the way up to Victoria University. Plenty of access to public transport through the new and improved train station and lots of bus connections too. There’s so much investment in St Albans and so much to look forward to in the near future, including an upcoming state-of-the-art aquatic centre with gym facilities.

Don’t get me wrong, St Albans has some lingering problems…quite a bit of dumped rubbish (mattresses. How do people have so many mattresses?). Brimbank Council have been so responsive to our dumped rubbish reports though, and are clearly on board with helping make the area a better place. Everyone needs to contribute in order to create a better community. There’s a lot of promise in St Albans, we just need to work together and have some pride.

Yes, there is the usual main street loitering, public drinking and evidence of drugs on occasion. I would argue though, which main street doesn’t have this, at least sometimes? But it’s an older crowd and you can see that St Albans is truly changing around them. For example, even during COVID, the Alfrieda Street Civic Plaza was freshly redeveloped with a new layout of benches and plants. The old scene isn’t going to last, and it’s more than balanced out by young families and friendly locals doing their thing. Overall, we love living in St Albans and look forward to seeing it continue to grow and evolve.

Huge wide streets and blocks that are great for subdivision. Old houses disheartening fast with lovely new townhouses popping up everywhere. Great new train-station, yummy restaurants, great schools, new upgraded Sunshine hospital 5 minutes away and Keillor Downs Shopping centre 2 minutes drive. The are building a $52 million dollar swimming/sports complex on Taylors Road too. This area has the comfort factor for busy mums and dads that you can shop/schools/trains/buses/freeways/hospitals all only a 5-10min drive away. Also the city is only 30 on the freeway, Altona beach is 25min. Also the airport is only 15-20minutes using the back roads. Best to buy now before you are priced out. Plenty of church's, temples and even has a mosque close by. There is Brimbank Shopping complex, Sunshine, Caroline Springs and Watergardens Shopping centres all only a 5-10 drive. Sunshine is getting really expensive to find a large block now so St.Albans makes a great choice as it's fast moving on the way up. There are trolls here bagging it for drug addicts which is sad for them as they don't ask to be on the streets but for smart people they know they they're harmless and keep to themselves and will eventually be priced out.

Went there to check out a house. Went to the local shopping strip, there were drunks and drug addicts everywhere. It was a Saturday morning and there were men openly drinking stubbies. One guy looked off his head on drugs. Walking down the main street all you can smell is smoke and I saw a lot of obesity. Not a healthy, progressive place. I am sick of people lying on this site, most probably Real Estate agents and investors talking suburbs up for their own ends. I saw with my own eyes what was going on there and it wasnt pretty.

I have been ,living in St Albans for over twenty years. It is an older suburb dating back to the 1800s. Today the suburb is home to people from all over the world giving vibrancy to its restaurants and shops. While the restaurants are not upmarket they offer variety and authenticity at very reasonable prices. The suburb offers numerous amenities minim Ising travel distance to services. I have always experienced the suburb as safe and community minded. There is a plethora of sporting facilities, parks and a brilliant theatre centre that offers a gorgeous space to actors, artists and visitors. The suburb is o only a half hour train trip to the cbd.

I’ve grown up in St. Albans my whole life and living here for the past 16 years plus , I have to say...it hasn’t been the best experience.
Just like any place there are some pros and cons, this place...is mostly cons..!
I’ve seen many crazy things and had many crazy things happen to me..it’s generally safe I guess but also dangerous at the same time.
This suburb has bad people so don’t hang out with the wrong crowd and end up doing stupid shit.
If you’re young 14- mid 20s and like to go out you are likely going to run into some thugs. (Black and islanders) mostly at the train station.
There are many wannabe gangs copying America because of social media and music.
They terrorise the youth and young adults.
They rob, bash, bully, everything you can think of...and the police and community isn’t doing much to help.
Some people are racist to dark skins , Asians and Indians.
There are also many junkies and homeless people shooting up and throwing needles everywhere including the park, alleyways, toilets, public grounds...it’s disgusting!
Many drug dealers are around and aren’t hard to find...just shows how much of a bad place this is!
The cons are close public transport access.
To elaborate, where ever you live in St. Albans you will always find a bus stop nearby that will take you to the train.
Also some restaurants are decent, I guess.
It’s pretty close to the cbd and many shops and public transport makes it easy to access if you don’t have a car.
There is watergardens Shopping Centre which is approx 5 min by train, highpoint shopping centre, Keilor downs, brimbank ect
There are gyms nearby aswell if you’re into fitness there’s sunshine gym on Wright street, anytime fitness which is pricey, derrimut gym ect ect
Overall, St. Albans is still a developing place and if you’re planning to live here, make sure you are aware of the crime and be safe..don’t go out too late and go out with a group of friends. If you’re a girl be extra safe as there are many sexual assaults and harassment that goes around here.

Centre of St Albans it's filled with a large range of choices of restaurants; bakeries; cafes. Close to public transport. Very convenient as you have everything at your finger tip.

St Albans has lots to offer its residents including a modern train station, small shopping centre with all the essentials, great cafes/restaurants, big parks and an all round safe friendly environment.

You dont have to pay premium for property especially big blocks. It's a popular area for investors, with the new zoning upgrades closer to main road west, so the prices have tend to shift on the other end of 600+ lately but still affordable.

St Albans is an all round quality suburb offering good infrastructure, multi cultured people, great schools, all within 25-30 minutes drive to Melbourne's CBD.
