Reviews of The Basin, VIC
"One of the major selling points of The Basin is the leafiness and community feel."
The Basin forms one of Melbourne's "green wedges" and is nestled into the forest covered foothills of Mount Dandenong and the Dandenong Ranges National Park, including Doongalla Forest. The residential development of the suburb includes bushy parks such as Wicks Reserve and some farmland. Offering three popular Primary Schools within a short distance and one secondary school sitting within The Basin boundaries and there are two local pre-schools. There are various shops and restaurants fronting two sides of The Basin Triangle, amidst a village atmosphere. Retail outlets include a gym, a licensed post office, two pubs, cafés, milk bar, liquor store, greengrocer, jeweller, butcher, bookstore, restaurants, hairdressing salons, fish and chips, and bicycle shop.
The whole idea is not to be in Melbourne... No issues with public transport, wheather it be bus or train for me. Close shops, nature, birdlife, trees and people. Sure beats living in congestion and noise...!
"Small quiet leafy suburb"

"Beautiful little Melbourne suburb"
Been living here for nearly two years now, and can honestly say that it is one of the best places I've ever lived. Quiet, safe, peaceful, picturesque with the national park to the rear, close to public transport (either bus or Boronia train station) and shopping (including a Kmart open til midnight close by at Boronia.. and just a 10 min drive to Knox City and Eastland Shopping Centres). Never had a problem with security, only the occasional party that is usually wrapped up by midnight. Plenty of access to medical facilities as well as schools.
Great for
- Beautiful views, close to national park
- Quiet and safe
- Close to shopping, schools, transport
Not great for
- Some streets are narrow and residents can park inconveniently
