Moved here 2 years ago. Everything is close and convenient.
Footpaths almost everywhere in town, so, easy and safe to walk/run or cycle. Numerous kids playgrounds. Weekly parkrun too. Indoor Jump and Climb for kids. Parkies just down the road for some outdoor climbing, zip-lining, etc.
Only smell the paper mill occasionally. Power plants don't bug me at all.
Monthly farmers' market that is well supported by residents.
Shopping: Good size Bunnings, a number of furniture stores, Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Officeworks, Spotlight, KMart and lots of parking at these stores. Lots of clothing stores. Spend a night in Melbourne about 4 times a year if we need things we can't order online or activities we can't find here.
Restaurants: Lots, few very good ones. Lots of coffee shops.
Fitness: Various gyms, Tennis courts, Basketball courts and the new swimming pool is currently under construction.
Numerous hair salons and barbers.
Mt Baw Baw, if you are looking for snow in winter and the beach about an hour's drive away. Morwell and Tarra Bulga National Parks less than an hour's drive away. Lovely walks there.
Bowling alley and movies in Morwell - about a 15 minute drive.
All in all very happy to live here. Don't need traffic jams and love the fact that I can see farm life when going for a walk.
Cannot comment on job opportunities or commuting to Melbourne.

I lived here for years but never felt part of the town. There no community relay here. Try to organise any thing and waste of time. They are to stuck in a rut here.

As for moving yes it is what I call a mini Melbourne as it has more then you need.
Bunnings and lots of food franchises and a mall.

But as for the streets. you can go round the streets and think this street is nice. Then wamo just half ways down the street your in slum town.
This is that you have the poorest of the poor middle class and wealthy all living in the same areas.

So no real segregation.
There is the sum parts of Traralgon.
I recommend do not think about there.

Crime is high. Every one need security cameras. People and no high achievers they just do the same all same all.
The council never looking at what will bring people to the town Just build perfoming arts centre they no one can afford to use.

Live here by all means. Just not every one good moves away. Plus jobs are had to find if yot skilled.

No one relay respects you or what you do. Traffic is hectic and don't give way.

I say for any achievers stay away!

Lived here all my life great place for shopping entertainment cinema restaurants sporting facilities

Lived here my whole life. I cannot say its great but its not terrible either.
I've had a particularly hard time starting my life here and it is not the best place to be for youngsters wanting to achieve high (eg. Doctorates, Higher Education). The town has its Pros and has its Cons, I've outlined them below.

Pros include:
- Close to Melbourne
- Essentials are all centrally located
- Easy Highway Access
- People are friendly in the Good Parts of the town
- Only an hour from the beach for families.

Cons include:
- Quite a lot of riff raff for a country town, lots of bogans and troubled teenagers.
- Not very quiet in the evenings, especially on Fridays & Saturdays if you live close to Star Bar or Saloon.
- Heavily polluted from the local power stations and paper mill (the latter has a very distinctive smell that will make you not want to spend time outside).
- The local high school (Traralgon College) is notorious for troubled teenagers and bullying.
- Has a sizeable ghetto, similar to neighbouring Morwell, Moe and Churchill.
- Crime rate can be high at times.

Friendly country town with good job opportunities and affordable real estate. Centrally located to the snow the city and the sea

If you're a bogan and happy to sit around on the dole, then this is your place.

The people who live here act all high and mighty, someone needs to tell them they live in the country.

If you are single or looking for a job, avoid Gippsland like the plague.

Traralgon is the hub of Latrobe Valley and is very much a small city in it's own right. There's very little that you go without in Traralgon and the town has a wonderful cafe culture, superb restaurants, great schools and sporting facilities with a substantial hospital. Housing is very affordable and you're still only an hour and 45 minutes from Melbourne CBD.

Traralgon is a regional city with a large variety of restaurants, cafes, great businesses and excellent sporting facilities.

Even though it has grown substantially over the past few years and now has many National retail brands, it has also retained its small boutique, locally owned businesses.

It is a large regional city, but still has a community feel, where you can walk down the street and see many familiar faces.

I love that it is centrally located - close to Melbourne, beaches and the mountains.

Love the fact that everything is under 2hrs away - snow, beach, city, 4WD country
