Reviews of Warrawong, NSW
"Warrawong"
Warrawong is great for the shops and eating out. It is close to both Wollongong and Shellharbour.
The main strip is sad looking though but the plaza is nice.
The rent is high for what you get with boomer landlords not fixing their property.
Locals varied like many places the good and the bad. Unfortunately there is a high crime rate. And people struggling with addiction issues but lack of services.

"Area can only get better"
Lived here over 20years it was a lot worse back in the day but from a demographic point of view it has a lot more then most suburbs close to beach, lake and a large variety of shops it can only get better.
"warrawong no way"
i have lived here since 1986 nothing but junkies cars girls and robberies and nothing has changed in the 30 year period lots of old people as the kids grow up they to become junkies warrawong stay away (northcliffe drive warrawong.
"Nice suburb with everything you need"
Lived in Warrawong itself for 6 years and now live in the next one close to it down the road, moved here from SA, it's a suburb with everything you need, domayne, harvery norman, joyce mayne, good guys, jb hifi, so many furniture shops, i dont need to go to Wollongong central itself as i have all i need here! it's between Wollongong and Shellharbour and only about 25min drive to Kiama.
The Port Kembla beach its a short 5min drive and its the best beach in Wollongong i reckon by far! medical clinics, schools, dentist, chemist and most everything here! the only negative at times is the pollution from the Port Kembla steel works with pollutants falling on the car and having to wash several times a week.

"AFFORDABLE LIVING.."
Close to Westfield,Hoyts,Bunnings,Domayne and Bcf just to name a few 10mins from Wollongong and a stone throw away from the boat ramp.It does have pollution like any suburb within 40klms of BHP dont be fooled the whole of Illawarra is sitting on BHP,as for cancer people in rural Australia 3000klms in land have cancer.House prices are affordable and yes ther are shady characters as there are in Redfern right in the City of Sydney for those who are afraid grow a pair.Would recommend if your starting out all area's have up's and downs but your bin is collected weekly and you can park on your lawn without being frowned upon like some illawarra areas lol..

"Warrawong is a winner!"
What a great suburb is Warrawong! It is a beautiful area looking out over Lake Illawarra, the people are really friendly with a great community atmosphere. The shopping is awesome with a Westfield and a great range of shops including cinemas. It has a wonderful multicultural feel. There are great parks and beautiful places to visit along the shores of the picturesque Lake Illawarra. It's very close to Wollongong and Shellharbour. Also really close to the great beach of Port Kembla. A great place to raise kids and have a family. Highly Recommended!

Hi There! I am looking to move to the illawarra area in january due to getting a job there in shellharbour, I noticed your comment saying its close to both shellharbour and wollongong which is great as i wanted to be close to wollongong too for the nightlife! do u live in warrawong perminantly? would you say its a good place for a young person to live? thanks :)
Too much pollution. I went to Warrawong High and a lot of people from the area got cancer & passed away from the BHP pollution.
I live on Warrawong, I've moved here in 2012. I used to live Bronte in Sydney, so before we moved to Warrawong I did some rearch. It used to be suburb populated by steel workers and their families plus there are 2 complex of housing commisions so sometimes u have feeling that poorer people live there if u compare.to.northern.suburbs of Wollongong, but I absolutelly love this place. Great neighbours shops shools and great local comunity (mostly Macedonians, Italian, Greeks and other european.nations). also.safe to live I could say same as Bronte or Monterey where I live before. Great parks beach and lake views. I WANT STAY HERE FOREVER HAHA. ;)
Warrawong is a nice suburb to live in, close to shops and bigger ones like domayne etc..beach close by and lake, I felt safe walking at night no problems...I havent seen many junkies, you get them anywhere you go! yes you wash your car one day then the next its dirty again. The Port Kembla beach is far better than Wollongong beach.
I have lived in Warrawong for 34 and seen many changes.l have never come across any shady people.we are multicultural people here .with lots to learn from each other.Westfield became Warrawong plaza that meant a update. Now where Bunnings was ( sadly it left ) there are major changes happening.More shops a new health centre and hooray the library will be moving back nice and close.Better for those people who dont have a car.All in all Warrawong is a great place to live. Not far from the beach a beautiful lake to walk around.BH Pis no where near as bad as it was. Public transport even the buses go to the beach and local Train station.like anywhere if your looking for trouble you can find it . My children grew up in a safe environment.Played outside in the fresh air with their friends down near the foreshore. There are people of all ages..There is only one draw back. Our hospital is no longer serviced to the over growing Community. We no longer have Emergency it isnt a Public Hospital any more. Many of us apposed that but no one listened.. We have to try to find our way to Shellharbour or Wollongong. Its crazy when they dont have the capacity to serve the community and turn people away. What sense is that ?
"Good if the government is paying your rent."
Warrawong is close to wollongong and has a large shopping complex, yet it's not somewhere you would want to live. The streets are unsafe at night, and even the shopping complex can be rough. The pollution from the steelworks leaves a dirty silt on everything and I would hate to bring up a child there.
Great for
- Close to wollongong
- Good shopping center
Not great for
- Too many junkies
- Lots of Housing Commisssion
- Dirty from the steelworks

Lived in warrawong for 14 yrs, loved it with convenience of major shopping and beaches, only drawback is pollution from steelworks but it's still great, homely feel there
