"Watch this space!"

With the University of Tasmania on the move from Mowbray to Invermay, I predict that Invermay will be a new central hub for the youth of Launceston. Located just minutes from the city centre with easy access to the city via a short walk, bike ride or on the local transport, Close to local shops, restaurant, cafes and local schools, It doesn’t stop there, why not catch an AFL game at the UTAS Stadium or visit the largest regional gallery in Australia, The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. I can see this little central suburb booming in the very near future!

As the owner of a Property Management business in Launceston and working in the Real Estate industry for almost 25 years, I am lucky enough to assist people looking to invest or finding homes for people moving to our State. Invermay is a suburb that really has it all. Situated a short drive and quick walk from the CBD, this flat and promising area offers affordable housing and great rental returns. With parks, hotels, eateries, schools, markets, Aurora Stadium and the University of Tasmania Invermay campus, there is something here for everyone!

"Best Park in the North"

Invermay boasts the best playground for children in the North, it offers basketball courts, grass areas, great toilets, bbqs, and 3 excellent areas for all ages. It also has a water and rock pool park.

"Fantastic Location"

Head North from Launceston's CBD and your first suburb is Invermay, about a 10 minute walk and a couple of minutes in a car. Having worked around the Invermay area for about 18 years, I have found it to be a very pleasant area and would reccomend it to anyone. Aproximately 3100 people reside in the suburb, with afl football games within walking disctance, growth in the area with a new bunnings building being developed alongside its nearer suburb "Mowbray" consisting of a newly constructed second supermarket and a targett building underway. Situated along the rivers edge, walking distance to the seaport marina, parks and much more. Affordable housing is a huge pro for the area and is possibly Launcestons best kept secret... If considering a move to the area, you will not be dissapointed..

"Invermay - The Suburb of Choice"

Invermay is the closest suburb directly north of the city of Launceston with much of it within walking distance to the CBD. Most of the cottages and houses were built between 1890 and 1930 and the vast majority are character weatherboard/galvanized iron roof homes.

Only ten years ago Invermay had a high percentage of rental properties but over the past few years many homes have been renovated and are lived in by their owners. The suburb is flat which appeals to the elderly, has Heritage Forest which appeals to those who love walking with their dogs and the families who love to walk to Aurora Stadium to watch one of the four AFL football games played each year.

There are still some excellent investment opportunities with rents climbing quickly over the past couple of years and there are still some “renovator’s delights” for the young trades people.

Hi Pepsikitten. Do you mean Mornington in Victoria? If so, I can not really comment as I have never lived there. I can say that I have lived in Invermay for many years now and I really to love the convenience of being so close to Launceston CBD. It has some wonderful character homes and still provides great value for money in today's market. Regards Richard.

Invermay was originally a suburb which accommodated working people involved with the marine facility at King's Wharf, and the town's trams which were quartered at the Tram Sheds in Inveresk immediately adjacent Invermay. Invermay is a town beside the town, and the land is flat. Some of the houses reflect an era of expansion and past prosperity showing great architectural stature, and presence; others are workers cottages which are quaint and homely. I would liken Invermay, in Launceston, to Battery Point in Hobart, and Port Melbourne , in Melbourne. People are seeing the worth of these once lowly suburbs, and investing money to renovate existing homes It reflects changing times and ideas, and it makes for a great suburb in which to live. Thanks for all your help Richard in past times. We've found our Shangri-La now.

Rentals in Invermay

"Its ok."

Invermay is okay. It has great potential to become a trendy cafe style suburb, but that is unlikely. At present it is a mix of residential and industrial uses. The industry in the residential area, especially along holbrook street and surrounds consists of mechanics and other automotive industries. Those 'swampies' living in the flat low area of invermay will experience vibrations and sometimes quite violent tremors caused by large vehicles passing and vibrating the soft expansive soils. Residents will also find that many homes are sinking, especially those with brick chimneys or boundary walls.
apart from that it is a good suburb, generally everyone is friendly, there are some very nice leafy streets and an endless supply of victorian-federation style homes waiting to be renovated. The arts precinct, architecture uni and stadium are all great attractions and invermay road is a good little shopping strip. we just need a supa-iga here and we'd be set.

"CF+ investment???"

It is possible to find a cash flow positive investment property here. Only a short distance from the CBD, Invermay, although an older suburb with overall low quality houses, is in a prime location. This area, I feel, will leap ahead once discovered. The levy banks will soon be upgraded, then there will be no reason not to live here. I can see it becoming a boutique, leaft cafe suburb, a bit like Wooloongabba/West End in Brissie, with the stadium and art precinct within the suburb. Rental returns are currently strong and entry prices relatively low.

Im moving to launceston in April and looking at living in Invermay but am worried about flooding. Have the new levys been built yet and if I move there will I have to worry about flooding?
