"Panania"

Panania is a well-established suburb known for its strong community feel, village-style shopping strip and excellent transport access. The train station, local cafes, schools and parks make it particularly popular with families and commuters. Housing stock is largely detached homes on generous blocks or modern duplexes, which supports consistent buyer and tenant demand. Modern and well maintained properties generally lease well, driven by families seeking space and convenience, while units and granny flats appeal to those wanting proximity to transport. Limited new supply and steady demand continue to underpin values, making Panania a reliable and resilient suburb for long-term ownership and investment.

"Lived there as a kid"

I love Panania, I moved there with my mum & dad in 1958. Yeah I know a long time ago. No 2 Carson St to be exact.
I spent so many wonderful years there.
Would go to the Panania Star cinema which is now a Catholic Church.
Mum and me would get picked up after the movies by Bert the bus driver.
I went on to work in the media for 60 years and now I'm retired up in Port Douglas QLD. I was chuffed to see that if you google Panania Wikipedia it lists me as someone notable from the suburb along with my old school mate Bryan Brown and the Waugh brothers who played some reasonable cricket. Also a couple of lads from Human Nature who I was lucky enough to run into in Las Vegas and informed them of our connection.
Every year and anytime I'm visiting Sydney (doing it next week) March 2024 I go for a walk from Revesby to Panania past our house and down
past Panania North Public School that I attended as a young tacker.
Love walking and last time I was there I walked from the Panania pub to Bankstown then to Punchbowl then to Riverwood and caught the train back to Revesby where I had a cold ale at the Revesby Workers where I'm a member. I went to school at De La Salle Kingsgrove and on this upcoming trip I'll be staying at the Kingsgrove Hotel (because I can) and try out the Kingsgrove RSL where I've just become a member.
I love the suburbs on the East Hills line and to me it's like travelling back in time.
I have some great friends there and I think I'll always walk the streets of Panania and Revesby even when I pass.
My wife has instructions to scatter my ashes at no 2 Carson St.
She'll tell the current owners it's good for the garden
Best wishes if you now live there.
You're very lucky people and I'm envious.

"Panania NSW 2213"

I moved to Panania in mid-2018 and have never looked back. There is such a community feel everywhere you go and so many friendly people in every direction. The infrastructure of this area definitely caters to all types of families. There is lots of bush lands, rivers, waterways, parks and open space to enjoy. There is a wide variety of shops, both independent and franchised and offers convenience at your doorstep. There is an array of family friendly restaurants which all offer outstanding value.

"South side of Panania, a quiet leafy spot close to national park"

After living here for many years, mostly good things to say - it’s been a lovely suburb to raise a family. In terms of negatives, I was surprised to read complaints about aircraft noise. I’ve never been concerned by this, there is the odd plane but they’re so high you’d only notice it if out in your backyard. The North side does tend to have less tidy homes, but that is mostly confined to Marco Ave or directly on the railway line - beyond that the smaller, quieter streets look just as nice as those on the South side. The annoying quirk in Panania is the number of streets without footpaths. Also, there's no nightlife - it's not that sort of spot. If you're a young single looking for a fun night out, Panania is not for you - stick to the inner west or Cronulla.

"I don't wanna move anywhere else"

I was skeptical when moving here from the Inner west 10 years ago. I lived in the Panania hotel side of station. Since then I've been seeing so many people moving to the areas (station is full of professionals waiting for the trains in the morning in compared with when I first moved here). The areas has welcomed so many new young families due to many of its good school options, both primary and high school: St Christopher, St Luke, De La Salle Revesby, Mt St Joseph. If you look up, all these schools got pretty good rankings (a grandchild of my neighbor got HSC 97). I work in the city so the train trip took only 30 minutes which is perfect for me. There are many parks and reserves near my place and I love to take a stroll in the afternoon in the parks nearby, where many people running or walking their dogs, taking tennis lessons or playing tennis. We initially chose to buy this place because I am a light sleeper, I wake up at the very slightest noise, and luckily I made the right choice buying a place with a park right at my front door (but with walking distance to train station). The only noise I could hear in the evening or at night is maybe my brother's footstep when running upstairs or downstairs, it is so quiet. Being a semi-detached house, I hear nothing from my neighbor semi-detached either. We park our cars (Lexus) outside and never had a single issue for 10 years now. Also I paid off my mortgage much more quickly than I thought rather than buying somewhere else more expensive! Why not taking advantage of the fast train trips to city (25 mins) while you can. Not sure some of the reviews are so terrible, it's like they're describing some other totally different suburb. The suburb is ranked quite good in Domain Livability index as well: https://www.domain.com.au/liveable-sydney/sydneys-most-liveable-suburbs-2019/sydneys-569-suburbs-ranked-for-liveability-2019-903130/

Central location with an easy 30 minute drive or less to many Sydney landmarks such as the beach, the city & major shopping centres such as Bankstown, Liverpool, Miranda, Parramatta & Macarthur.

"Good suburb but unnecessary aircraft noise spoiling the area."

I have lived in Panania since 1982. It is still a nice area but is gradually deteriorating. Houses are constantly being demolished so there always seems to be building works going on. The small suburban houses are being replaced with horrible modern buildings that do not fit in with the general ambience of Panania. They are oversized and built with extremely bad taste, boxey looking constructions, obviously designed by architects who wouldn’t know how to draw a curved line. Also the noise from constantly circling training flights is very annoying. Sydney is a big area so I don’t know why these flights can’t circle other parts of Sydney from time to time. Even if they just circled north of the airport occasionally would give us some relief. I live just off Tower Street and while the planes don’t usually go directly overhead they are close enough to give me a headache after a while. The noise is the main reason that would prompt me to move.

Hi, totally agree with the comment about the aircraft noise. As you've been in the area for such a long time, has the noise got worse during recent years? When I raised a complaint to AIRSERVICES AUSTRALIA, they replied that the airspace is public and nothing will change.

jeffs14

I am a light sleeper and been living here for 10 years and had no issue with it at all. They usually stop flying after 5pm. You can hear it during the day if you pay attention, but it's not noisy as they just flew past and from a very long distance. No noise at all after 5pm. I didn't hear any aircraft noise in the evening or night time. btw I live on the side of the station with the Panania hotel and near Cammarlie St/Batchelor Avenue.

So heartening to hear these reviews.

Airservices told me the same , so if the airspace is public why does a minority inconsiderate people pollute it so much?

"Peaceful and friendly neighborhood"

We have recently bought a house in panania (in the northern part) and have not encountered any sort of negative experience so far.. neighbours are friendly and smile and greet you sometimes. Not sure where these apparent ‘bad’ streets are.. we have walked several times towards the station during the day and night and have never felt unsafe. Like someone has mentioned in the comments below..it’s definitely a hidden gem! Close to everything and yet so peaceful. Highly recommend this suburb for young and growing families.

Hi, do you have a problem with airplane noise like the other review mentioned?

albertom1

If you are looking for a house in the north side of the station, be prepared to hear aircraft noise for at least 7-8 hours a day for 3-4 days a week. I bought my house one year ago and just found out after that there was no aircraft noise due to the circuit training schools being closed for the Covid restrictions. Didn't find any comments about aircraft noise when I did my research, so now I want to flag to everyone moving in this area of this issue. Hopefully, more people will join my complaints and something will improve.

jeffs14

Hi emm4, I think when saying it's "noisy" you have to compare it to something else to make a fair comparison. If you live in Sydenham/Marrickville/Mascot areas, the aircraft noise is far much worse + very noisy as the flights are constant. However here in Panania, all the "noise" is just a few aircraft training every now and then/occasionally, definitely not for a full 7 or 8 hours straight, that sounds very unusual. Been here for a decade, I only notice the noise only 1 or 2 times a week when I work from home. I used to live in Inner West or those abovementioned areas and the noise from neighbours there are far worse. That is 1 of the reasons I moved here with my kid, to find somewhere I can have a good night sleep then the next day wake up well to go to work + care for my family.

jeffs14

I think in a quiet areas like Panania, then you noticed it much more even just the slightest of noise, because it's just so quiet here, hence the only "noise" can be noticed quite easily. When you live in a crowded place, so much noise at the same time making it "normal" and more acceptable.

"Beware car drag burnout racing at night...."

Very annoying problem in this part of the neighborhood is the drag burnout car racing at night. I thought it was good for my family but I had enough after 2yrs here, don’t even bother reporting it to the police they won’t even bother with it...

"A place i am happy to.call home"

I moved to Panania in August 2017, when I got married as my husband has lived here for the last 50 odd years as did his parents and they've never had a problem. Where I lived before at Baulkhan.Hills, (Boredom Hills) I am happy to say I no longer live there. While a lot of people say what a nice area it is, maybe in some respects, but you have to walk.everywhere as bus service sucks, and there is nothing to do. As far as rough trade, well every suburb has that
Look at Willmott, Bidwill etc, every direction of metropolis Sydney has its houso element. Panania may have but I love living here. Every thing is so easy to get to.
