Reviews of Cottesloe, WA

"Leafy safe, quiet area right on the beach"

Cottesloe is a comfortable, quiet safe suburb right on the beach. It includes some great cafes, pubs, restaurants with major supermarkets, retail and services all included. Cottesloe has good schools and child care, is 15 minutes from Perth CBD and close to 3 train stations and main arterial roads. It has a mix of older established homes and apartments, with newer developments also popping up. Good place to live :)

"Awesome Sunsets..."

I Love Cottesloe because of the fantastic beach... I used to swim here every weekend as a boy and now bring my kids here all through the summer... I work locally and I live in Shenton Park just 5 mins away and love Cottesloe beach so much that I proposed to my girlfriend at sunset on Valentines Day 2012 ( she said yes for the record!) ...

"Great place to Live"

Close to the city and beach. Strictly for investments, what else could you want? Dont know about others, but our neighbours are great. Sometimes you do get the rif raf coming to the area from other suburbs, but usually not alot of trouble. Nice cafes and restaurants, its a great place to be. We bought our first home here in 2000, and the property prices in the area have just boomed! its amazing. I would recommend it to everyone!

"Close to the beach... Very expensive..."

Most of the older houses in cottesloe are set on big blocks of land 500sqm+. A few years ago cottesloe was just about affordable suburb... but in recent time a lot of the older houses have been ripped down and replaced with stylish duplexes as subdivides. Which has made the property market in this suburb boom.

The suburb is conveniently located between fremantle and perth. Expensive but basically as close as you can get to the beach.

"Life's a Beach!"

Perfect all round suburb where you can pretend you are always on holiday. Great beach, loads of cafes and restaurants, good pubs, and boutique shopping, with excellent public transport access. Forget Bondi as the iconic Aussie beach - Cottesloe is where it's at!

"Over rated and looking to move."

We can not believe how rude people are especially drivers. The local schools are fantastic but unless you went to school or studied with the other parents they are extremely exclusive and stick to their cliques! Half way through term 2 and despite saying hello I am often ignored.
We have lived in various places around the world and have been quite shocked. So much for the stereotypical happy Aussie - we have not met any here in Cott. We do not know the name of our neighbours even though we introduced ourselve when we moved in and say hello most days. They have bascally snubbed us.
The best thing are the beautiful beaches and our early morning walks. The Napolean street shops are lovely too. There are many great coffee options and cafes.
The biggest problem for us have been the parties that are loud and go on frequently after midnight. Also we have had quite a number of drunken youths yelling out the front at night and quite a few cars doing burn outs in thestreet. Luckily we bought during the dip as we have our property on the market again and can not wait to leave this over rated suburb and the stuck up and obnoxious locals.

"Overrated"

The local residents are a mixture of very cool nice people who have been living there for decades, like me, and the rich snobby people who really don't care about anyone else and have blower vacs, lawn mowers, whipper snippers out in the early morning, all day actually, at least once a week. Some (a few) have very loud parties. So check your possible neighbours out. The bigger the mansion usually the less friendly the neighbour / the older the house the nicer and less noisy the neighbour.

Next to mosman park, home of the heroin addicts due to the mandatory homeswest housing, unfortunately because some nice people pay a lot of money to buy houses there. mosman park druggies roam cottesloe streets at night "car popping" - checking to see if your car is unlocked, and young males are frequently seen ripping out street signs and heard yelling and vandalizing. not to mention the pubs, avoid living near them at all costs.

The safest part of cott is probably the side between the railway and and stirling highway. Heres hoping that oneday the railway will go underground.

The beach tends to be pretty safe at night, and it is nice and well lit up. But I do walk with a large dog. Avoid the bushes at the dip before the lookout at all costs at night. it is know for mugging.

The primary school is great. The busses (99, 103, 107) go straight to uwa and QE2, but they don't always turn up and there is always a botttle neck at around 8 am and 4pm due to the silly rich people in 4wd taking their kids to the private schools. There is no parking at uwa if you live in cottesloe. Free parking if you have a motorbike though, and the backstreets make it quick and easy to get to the city, uwa and QE2.

Farmer Jacks in claremont is great. Woolworths, the post office etc are close by.

there is a serious rat prioblem because of the seeds dropped by the pine trees. and a roach problem because people water in the heat of summer. In summer there is no parking, even if you live there !

Some dogs attack, but the rangers do nothing.

Your review is very thorough, I am impressed. I'm glad that you were honest about the problems with the druggies and the neighbours having loud parties. Most people write a glowing review of their area and it is not helpful to people who are genuinely thinking of buying there.
