"A suburb that is booming with Infrastructure upgrades (19-24km away from CBD depending on where you live)"

The biggest benefit of living here is that you are ahead of majority of the traffic (From Tarneit and Hoppers crossing ) in peak hour especially if you are located near Palmers road. It saves 20-25min each way in peak hour traffic compared to living in other Wyndham Suburbs. New houses coming up are very beautiful and loads of double stories are being built. This suburb has a few decent primary/secondary schools (Westbourne Grammer etc.) and more to come. Proximity to a train station i.e. Williams Landing if you are the start of the suburb or Tarneit station if you are towards the end of the suburb. Both Point cook shopping and Werribee plaza are not far away. Williams landing shopping centre is somewhere you can go to as well.
Forsyth Road extension to Dohertys road from Sayers road is underway, Palmers Road duplication is almost done, Leakes road duplication is underway and 2-3 small shopping centres with a Supermarket are coming up (Woolworths at Allura estate, 2 retail centres on opposite sides of Plamers and Leakes (construction underway)), 2-3 petrol station with fast food joints on Leakes road etc.
Pros
  • Less Traffic
  • close to CBD, water and highways
  • lots of schools
  • near to great ocean rd,werribee park,werribee zoo,altona beach,werribee beach
Cons
  • not enough cafes and boutiques and bars
  • No Public Transport
  • No Shops, No Entertainment

SebastianJ Seriously..may be Its the best place to live. But if you want to commute work heavy traffic everywhere.. Every saturday you cannot travel through leaks rd due to that rubbish laverton market..

davidd4 I have lived in Footscray prior to moving to Truganina, and can say that during work peak hour traffic, most of the suburbs also suffer the same fate when heading into the city. I prefer PT; door to door to the office in the city it takes less than an hour - quicker than it is to drive into the city during peak hour.

But I must agree that Laverton market does generate a bit of traffic during the Saturdays but it is still bearable.

"lived in westbourne estate for 9 years."

I bought in Truganina in October 2007 for $235K . townhouse on own land 3br 2 bth 1GR . considering what been selling around me now estimate value $380-$390 K . At first there was very little to offer in the area . Point cook town Centre was land . Marquands rd was a dirt track and the rail line was just an idea. So I have seen it all . One thing I will say is when I first bought her people would say " Truganina ... where's that ? " but it is quite well known now and property prices are really moving . House across road from me sold in Sept 2015 fro $335k and now sold last week For $390k . (3 br unit .) Things have really started moving in terms of infrastructure and shops etc. I see there's a new shopping centre planned for corner of Forsythe and leakes Rd and the latest 2017 Melways shows a " proposed Truganina rail station . There are problems with all areas and I think one of the bonuses of this area is to my knowledge there is none or very little housing commission homes. Most people work in the area and I feel very safe here . There was a time when Truganina was described as one of the cheapest arears to buy in Melbourne , those days are gone and houses are regularly selling between $550 K -$700 K . I think once its all finished and all land is sold it will be a really nice area . No regrets from me buying here . I was renting in Kew before and the traffic was horrendous and trams everywhere were a pain.

"Convenient, Close to CDB, Affordable"

Pros;
Fast Takeaway for a quick feed (walking distance);
Maccas / KFC / Red Rooster
Better food choices and brunch (driving distance 5-10 mins);
Point Cook Town Centre, Williams landing shopping centre, Wyndam village, Wallace Avenue etc.
New Car Wash and 7 Eleven on Marquand road makes it easy to purchase last minutes things on the fly without venturing too far out
Ample number of medical centers - 3 along sayers road
Good amount of parks so that you can go for a quick jog
Alot of other shops along old Geelong road (Bunnings / Chemist Warehouse / Good guys / SuperCheap auto / Werribee Plaza etc if you need to shop for anything
Very close to the city and only takes around 30 minutes into the CDB when quite, 2 train stations that you can get on, either Williams landing or Tarneit station (depending whether you are on the start or tail end of Truganina.)
Good for young home buyers who want to get into the property market or rent while saving up for a deposit, my wife and I have been living here for almost 5 years and the suburb improves each year, more and more amenities being built as the population also becomes denser :)
More young professionals are slowly moving into the area, noticed this by talking to friends who are buying into the area as it is affordable/close proximity to the city and also it offers key amenities.

Cons;
No cafe\brunch\restaurants\shopping center yet at walking distance
Some new estates have NBN already, however the older areas are still running on ADSL 2, so hopefully we will get NBN soon too

"Lived here for 5 years"

Well, we have been living here for 5 years and have seen the suburb evolve. When we came in 2010, it took me 6 months to get ADSL connection from Telstra. Man it was a struggle! Got the connection after complaints and eventually was upgraded to ADSL 2+ and there is no looking back. The connection is blistering fast and I am happy with it. I am a tech freak and Internet is way to important for me.

The place: There are newly planted trees everywhere so if you are expecting this to be a greeny suburb, please look at S.E. suburbs. There's like 1000s of acres available and under construction with new homes. parking has never been a problem. I can only imagine what traffic will be like in the next few years unless council does something. Traffic is crazy on Sayers road, Moris Road and Leakes road during peak hours (from 6am - 8:30am and 5pm - 6:30pm). All other times, there is no traffic. I think this is common in all the suburbs, I may be wrong.

Shops/Cafes/Nightlife: We have Wyndham Village shopping center which is just okay with basic amenities. The food court is crap. There are more shops coming up as SAMS warehouse has closed down. New restaurants are coming up next to Wyndham Village shopping center. Nightlife, what nightlife?! There is no nightlife in Truganina!

Medical: This suburb is awesome for medical help. You can find clinics that are open till 12am! Some of the docs are crazy and some are really good. You find this everywhere. There are good number dental clinics and two Super Medical center have just opened doors in Truganina, both on Sayers road.

Parks: Good number of parks and open land. Some of them are well maintained. There are few Kids park but i really want council to create more or expand the current ones with better equipments as this suburb and the surrounding ones have thousands of young kids.

Culture/community: You will find tons of Indians (me being on of them) and other Asian, African and middle eastern community with good number Australians. The community has a variety of income earners from high to average earners. I can make this out by looking at my street and where my friends live and also with people in the shopping center.

Shopping: Werribee plaza is crap but is under construction. Hoping it to be a good one once completed. I prefer HighPoint.

Transport: Well connected by Bus and train with Williams Landing train station. The new tarneit V Line Train station will start mid June 2015.

School - I heard schools are an absolute crap here. There are lots of child care. And please be aware of the family day cares, some of them are disgusting!
Some of you have mentioned of the parking issues at the Islamic School. This has never affected me as most of the people park in the service lane in front of the school.

Overall, I am satisfied with the surburb as it caters my need though i there are a lot of things that needs to be looked at by the council. The best part of living in Truganina is you can get the best of Tarniet, Williams Landing, Hoppers crossing and Werribee. You dont have to pay tons to buy a house. They are affordable. If you are planning to invest and can wait, this is a good suburb for long run but not for a short high gain. With so much under construction and population boom in Truganina and Tarniet, these suburbs will be hot properties in the next 5-10 years.

"Perfect if you are looking for somewhere cheap, otherwise move on"

Truganina is a great cheap place to have a home, here you can afford that house that looks great and would cost far too much to build elsewhere, there however stops the benefits once you move it's all down hill. Luckily I don't have to deal with the traffic like I had to in the past which is ridiculous, trying to get to the freeway is a 30-45 min exercise and then to sit in Westgate in traffic further adds to the fun.

Schools are a joke, most are around an ATAR median score of 28 except for westbourne which even after paying extra fees the best you get is 32 which is hardly worth it. Primary schools aren't much better with schools consistently below NAPLAN averages dotted close by. It is appalling that the education of students in this area is this poor the outcomes of these kids are mostly trade and part time/casual roles which lead to poor health and employment outcomes further perpetuating the issues of this area. Those who know about this will know what I am talking about.

The community spirit is non existent, from the people who refuse to tie up their dogs when they go for a walk even thought they clearly have no control over their pets, to the rampaging hoons on motorbikes up and down the creek paths. There is an abundant community of peoples of Muslim and Indian affiliations and everyone else feels like the outsiders, the mosque on Sayers road blatantly ignores parking restrictions ensuring during large festivals, cars are parked up and down Sayers road for kilometres and causing ridiculous scenes.

Internet is third world slow, after months of pushing and pushing I managed to get ADSL 1 which is poor at best, those lovely buffering circles in YouTube are just fantastic. Repeated requests for cable and ADSL 2 are met with timelines which never eventuate.

I am still living here but desperately looking for a way out, selling up will leave you with the realisation that you will get a poor price to buy anywhere else so you feel trapped, avoid this place if you can.

"No community spirit , this suburb lacks a soul"

Very poorly planned area , traffic on Sayers Road is a nightmare , no shops unless your into Mc Donald's and Red Rooster , no community spirit , the area defiantly lacks personality , if you live here and need to buy milk during peak traffic times look forward to an hour round trip . Large immigrant area , nature strips are disgusting many residents wouldn't know what a lawn mower was . Hopefully things change , there is I nice park being built in the new Forsyth development and now have Telstra bigpond broadband after years of nothing ,will give it a couple more years if nothing changes will move to a nicer suburb.

PJ1 Hi Mark - hope you're doing good!

Now that couple of years have passed - just curious to know how are you finding the place or have you moved on? Have things changed in Truganina?

"Dismal!! Moved out after one year."

We lived along parkland off Sayers Rd. on Bridgewater Way. It was a nightmare!! There were hoons riding their extremely loud dirt bikes up and down the paths all hours of the night. Police did nothing to assist. Also lots of hoons in cars. Our immediate neighbours were nice, but there was no real community spirit - most people kept to themselves. Internet was a total waste. Many areas were too far from the exchange. We were on the outer rim and our internet was so slow - I couldn't even Skype with my family.

The traffic was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. Forsyth road and Sayers road - FORGET ABOUT IT. I used to take my daughter to care in Point Cook at 8:30am - it would literally take me 30 minutes to go the 1.5kms down Forsyth road in the morning. Without traffic, it took about 7 minutes to get over to Point Cook. With the traffic, about 45 minutes!!! We couldn't find decent childcare in the Tarneit/Truganina area so had to go across the highway to Point Cook for our shopping and childcare and ultimately ended up moving to Point Cook.

Infrastructure, schools, daycares, roads, shopping centres - all overcrowded and poorly planned. I wouldn't recommend this suburb to anyone I cared about.

Truganina is one of the best options. 8 mins drive(you need car) to Laverton or Hoppers crossing station. Around 8 child care centre. 6 schools (all of them good ones).Really good houses ,with lot of space. Locality is safe and with Tarneit (vline station in 2016) . For money,saftey and space. "Growing Fast"

There will be fibre optic cable in new developing Estates. It is in close proximity to hopper crossing and williams landing train station. There is a functioning shopping centre, 24 hrs medical centre and many childcare options. Proposed V-line station in Tarniet will be in close proximity. Truganina offers mixed cultural population which is the best part of it. However, i will recommend those interested in buying property to check their surrounding. Mostly, newly developing Estates are expected to offers better community.

Bush I don't think it is any good for beach lovers maybe Altona and Williamstown where the swim-able beach is. Not swamp land and to go swimming in puddles.

"Traffic Nightmare"

I moved here a little over a year ago what a Nightmare. Traffic on Sayers Road and Forsyth Road nightmare and they are the only 2 roads in and out to the highway, There no shops or entertainment only McDonalds which is the worst i have ever been to on the corner of Sayers Road. Truganina has nothing so be prepared to Travel to shops and try and fight your way through Traffic all day long to get in and out of the joint. This is also an extremely migrant area so its been hard to place my child in day care or Kinder i am not raciest but probably 8 out of 10 kids are Black, Indian or Muslim in the schools, daycare centers and Kinder. Quiet area at the moment but the babies and young kids of the area will soon be teens!! There is no public High School here either only a Private High School. This area will never change for Traffic issues because there's no room been left to make way for roads i cant wait to move. Good for cheaper Rent due to lack of anything here and Traffic Nightmares!

"Unprepared for growth rate"

lived here 14 months & looking forward to moving this year. I live on the busiest road in town, Morris, so that has clouded my judgement, somewhat. Not unsual to see traffic bumper to bumper crawling along to Sayers Road in the mornings. Wet weather, any kind of minor fender bender, or roadworks are enough to cause this traffic delay, making the short drive in to thec ity a rather long & tedious slog, with no respite even when you are on Sayers. There seem to be a lot of idiot drivers around, sticking to the speed limit has had people overtake me in the bike lane on many occasions; drive through red lights, do burn-outs. Between 3 - 4 pm driving from the top of Morris down to Hoppers is a no-go - have sat through up to 3 rounds of the lights at this time! The roads in the rabbit warrens AKA streets around here are really narrow, making it impossible to pass another car on many occasions & one having to pull over to allow other one through. We are zoned for Baden Powell College. My girlfriend moved to Tarneit almost 5 years ago & there were 300 students, now there are 1200+. Parking woefully inadequate; no drop-off zone, downright dangerous to pick-up kids! It takes me 20 minutes to walk there, & I would rather do that than deal with the traffic chaos. School is primarily demountables. Standard of education seems good. Also, very multi-cultural, which I enjoy; (except not the request that there be no depiction of Christianity in the Easter Hat Parade as it may offend some) My girlfriends son catches a bus to Point Cook Senior (there is now a new High School here) and the bus is late almost everyday. I enjoy the bikepaths & bike lanes. I hate, loathe & despise the constant contruction din, years of that to come. If you ARE to move here, do not move to Morris Road. And be sure to come & check out the traffic situation at peak times. You may finds that living on one side of Morris Road rather than the other may be better for you, depending which way you need to go. Seriously, the traffic can be that bad! NO decent nightlife to speak of, & the Village Cinema at The Plaza (closest cinema) has limited releases. My friend, who lives in adjoining Tarneit, loves the area. Like I said: AVOID MORRIS!!

"A place not built to grow so quickly"

Truganina and surrounding areas have grown at such as rate that the roads can not cope with the traffic. Sayers Road is terrible for a lot of the day due to peak hours and having two schools so close together. The public transport is almost non existent in the area which makes travel without a vehicle difficult. The few parks not well appointed for young families in most cases. The positives are that the cost of living is good due to the socio economic groups that live in this area. The shopping centres are on the improve but there still is not enough to serve the amount of growth. I’m sure one day it will catch up by for me I think and area that is more established is preferable. If the spending dollar is the problem I would suggest some of the established areas in Hoppers or Werribee where public transport and other amenities are available.

Although one big thing I miss about this area is the proximity to the airport and the city - fantastic!

"A real melbourne experience - mix of people!!"

Developing area, with lots of construction all around. The area has a varied mix of people from all backgrounds living. The area needs infrastructure improvement from the council starting with planting trees and unweeding the nature strip.

"Great Location, Great Value!"

We lived in Truganina for over 6 months now and still love it. We previously lived in the outer eastern suburbs and proprety prices were completely unaffordable. Working in the city it is easy for me to get in and out of the city via the freeway or train. With the new regional rail link to open up in the coming years this will only help further. Compared to the eastern suburbs I would have been paying twice the amount for a property within 22 kms of the city.

There are a lot of developments and building going on at the moment which can be annoying however the upside being in the next 5 years most will be finished.

Recommend Truganina highly for first home buyers or young families like ours.
