Have a look at some of the beautiful Californian bungalow inspired homes and you will see lots of potential for renovations and restoration. It is close to its own railway station and major arterials. It is a great place to bring up a family!

It has nothing that is overly exciting. The supermarket is terrible so you need a car, the restaurants are generally more like a cafe. The train station is great to get to and from the city - that is the best bit of the suburb

Mitcham is a pretty safe place, I lived there for a year in 2019 and can confirm that I never felt unsafe while walking to and from the station at night or in the early hours of the morning. It is a bit lacking in things to do and shops, though its close proximity to Eastland, Forrest hill chase and Nunawading does make up for this. In terms of PTV Mitcham is a primary station and is rarely skipped, you also get the Lilydale and Belgrave trains.

one of the best suburbs in the Eastern part of Melbourne, which is still affordable (though the prices are growing) for what it has to offer. Great parks, lots of good schools, perfect public transport and absolutely SAFE and family friendly. Certainly recommend for young families to settle in Mitcham and enjoy this tranquil, family friendly suburb.

Have been living in Mitcham for over 2 years now and LOVE everything about it. Perfect public transport (best train line, almost every 2 to 3 mins there is a limited express train to city), close to main free ways, close to all kinds of shopping centres, heaps of beautiful parks and close to both primary and secondary schools and on top of all safe, family friendly and leefy area. Certainly a perfect suburb for families.

Mitcham is positioned in a ideal location with schools, shops, public transport, Mitcham Private Hospital and offers access to Eastlink and Eastern Freeway. This growing suburb has recently reached the $1 million median price range which makes it a highly sought after location and choice of suburb to either purchase or rent.
Take a 30 min drive and you will reach the beautiful Yarra Valley where you can experience its well known wineries and tranquil surroundings.

Great family area, has everything you need in walking distance. By car you are a quick drive by either freeways or Maroondah hwy to the city, beach or valley. Its the perfect spot. Nice area for walking your dog, riding, coffee ( with nice cafes ) and quiet with the sounds of kookas and other birds. Schools are great, my kids were in walking distance to the lot...kinda, primary and secondary. Dont need your licence as you have trains and busses.

Mitcham is a beautiful leafy-green suburb in a great location. It is a quick drive to the fabulous Eastland shopping centre where you can stop in for a shop, catch a movie or grab a delicious bite at the funky new restaurants. It's quick to jump on the eastern freeway and the train station was also upgraded not too long ago.

There are lots of great cafes to eat at on the weekend. We like to walk the dog at Halliday Park which is absolutely buzzing on weekends - especially when the sun is out! Mullum mullum reserve is also a short drive away for those moments you need to escape the hustle and bustle for a nice bush walk. Its amazing to find such a place in the middle of suburbia.

We also love to take our interstate guests for a drive to nearby Warrandyte and it is also a bonus being close to the Yarra Valley.

The one downfall I would say is the local shopping centre and Coles. It is a little outdated and could do with a revamp. They often have low stocks or not so many options. There is a local fruit and veg but they also keep low stocks it seems. Tunstall square and Brentford square are both only a short drive away and provide a better grocery shop in my opinion.

As a resident and Property Manager in Mitcham I feel I have great insight into the area and can honestly say it is a fantastic place to live/work!

Firstly Mitcham is located in a perfect spot next to top performing suburbs like Donvale, Blackburn, Vermont and Nunawading. It's wedged between major freeways including the Eastern freeway and Eastlink, the newly renovated Mitcham train station (with 20-25 minutes express services to he CBD), major shopping centres (including newly renovated Eastland) and littered with parks/walking tracks.

Mitcham offers good shopping amenities including Coles, post office, gyms, cafes, restaurants and speciality shops, but is still close to bigger shopping centres including Knox, The Glen and Eastland.

Yarran Dheran Nature Reserve is a lovey scenic part of Mitcham to get away for a quiet walk and Simpson Park is dog friendly if you want to let you dog off the lead for a play!

From a Property Managers perspective its a great place to live for tenants and is quite popular for the above reasons. For investors Mitcham offers good sized blocks which are great for developing, but can be quite expensive depending where you buy in Mitcham.

With lots of apartments popping up in the area you can grab a bargain if you want to buy an small apartment for under 300K, but the rental yield is high and they are popular with tenants due to location and how modern they are.

Overall its a lovely multi cultural place to live and certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of buying or investing here!

Mitcham is a great Eastern suburb with all city conveniences without the city's bad traffic! Located only 20kms from the city, and with two train stations it is an easy 30 min commute into the city via public transport.
With many restaurants and cafes popping up, the dining options have become fantastic and the people are extremely friendly and welcoming. With 80% of Mitcham being owner occupied, there is both great longstanding families and investors residing within Mitcham. Very Family friendly, and also great for singles and young professionals with great shopping, public transport and cafes and dining.

Nice Suburb, got schools, parks, shops and public transport. Really good family suburb.

Great area, close to public transport buses and trains. Not too far from highway links to the city. Lack of parking due to station upgrade makes commuting difficult and no lift at new station makes it difficult for the disabled. Lots of shops, trees and parks. Very little in the way of nightlife. House prices are getting very high putting out of the reach of many families.

Mitcham is one of those popular leafy eastern suburbs where many people aspire to live.
There are many character homes (some still original and some extended and renovated), excellent shops and and heaps of parks/bushland walking tracks.
Mitcham also has better public transport than suburbs (train and bus to CBD).
The local schools are excellent (four primary, one secondary) and there is easy access to surrounding private and Catholic schools.
There is not much 'nightlife' to speak of, but the Mitcham Hotel has great meals and occasional live music.
Mitcham has retained much of its village feel - the central main shopping centre has a supermarket, medical services, restaurants and cafes filled with regulars.
Residents are a mixture of long time older residents and families / couples of all ages.

Nice place to live ,close to every thing but little traffic noise .
Slowly old houses are being replaced or done up with units replacing older homes .
Lovely and green with many species of birds and other wildlife .
Slowly but steady the prices have risen with good growth over the long term .

Mitcham is a safe, tranquil and conveniently located suburb. It's a very good neighbourhood with friendly people around. Also close to a number of major shopping complexes and public transport (30 minutes to the city by train).

Quiet place, great access to transport, shops and cafes. Good re-sale for homes, good sporting facilities, great for dogs, nice mix of couples, families and older people. Good newsagent, medical and dental surgeries, close to larger shopping centres, freeway to city and peninsula, fully staffed train station with parking.

Approximately 7 square kilometers in size, Mitcham is a perfectly located suburb of Melbourne. With a train line linking Mitcham to the heart of the city, and highways providing easy access to tourism sites such as the Dandenong Ranges National Park and its Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, the superb wineries of the Yarra Valley and the amazing Healesville Sanctuary, Mitcham is an excellent location in which to live.

Mitcham is also located at the beginning of the new Eastlink tollway which runs 39km from Mitcham to Frankston, linking the eastern suburbs to the south-eastern Melbourne suburbs.

With almost 8% of its total area covered in parkland (29 parks in all), the name Mitcham was derived from a place near Croydon in Surrey, England.

When Mitcham’s first school, a private school for 27 students became insufficient, a State school was established and opened in August 1888. The school was originally located right next to the corner of Whitehorse Rd, where Mitcham’s Coles supermarket now stands. It moved to its current location in May 1930. Today, Mitcham is home to 4 schools and 4 childcare centers, as well as numerous shops, cafes and restaurants, which service its ever growing population.

Homes in the area were predominantly built in the 1950s and 60s, with a mixture of weatherboards and brick veneers lining the mostly tree-lined streets, however some houses date back to as early as last century. As the demand for Mitcham has grown, so too have the house prices and as a result many renovations have been taking place as the area continues to increase in value.
