Reviews of Torquay, VIC
"Breathtaking coastal views"
Torquay is situated along the Great Ocean Road, offering breathtaking coastal views. It's about 100 kilometers from Melbourne, making it a popular choice for both residents and tourists seeking a coastal escape not too far from the city.
The lifestyle in Torquay is centred around the ocean and outdoor activities. The town is renowned for its surfing, with famous spots like Bells Beach attracting surfers from around the world. Apart from surfing, there are opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, and other water sports. The coastal trails and national parks provide fantastic hiking and wildlife-watching opportunities. The town also hosts various events and festivals, which add to its vibrant atmosphere.
The real estate market in Torquay is often competitive due to its popularity. Properties range from beachfront homes to suburban houses. The coastal properties tend to be highly sought after and can be more expensive. However, there's a range of options available, including apartments, townhouses, and family homes, catering to different preferences and budgets.
Apart from the beaches, Torquay boasts a lively café and restaurant scene, offering a variety of cuisines. The Surf World Museum and the nearby Split Point Lighthouse are popular attractions for both locals and visitors.
The Bottle of Milk: It's known for its vibrant atmosphere, delicious burgers, and a great selection of craft beers. It's a casual spot that often draws in locals and visitors alike. The outdoor seating adds to the relaxed vibe, and it's a great place for an evening out with friends.
The Fish House: This restaurant not only offers fantastic seafood but also a great ambience, especially in the evenings. The views and coastal atmosphere add to the dining experience, making it a popular choice for a nice dinner with a lively yet more refined feel.
Both places offer great food and an enjoyable atmosphere for an evening meal, but the specific "best" option might depend on individual preferences for cuisine and ambience.
The community in Torquay is known for being friendly and diverse. There are local markets, community events, and plenty of opportunities to get involved in outdoor clubs and groups, fostering a strong sense of community.
Torquay offers a mix of investment opportunities and lifestyle choices. The market can be competitive, especially for properties closer to the coast, but the quality of life and the potential for rental income from tourists or long-term tenants make it an attractive prospect. If you're considering investing in Torquay, thorough research on the market trends and understanding the lifestyle preferences of potential buyers or renters would be crucial.
"High-end Lifestyle!"
Torquay is a seaside town at the east end of the Great Ocean Road coastal drive, southwest of Melbourne, Australia.
It’s known for surf beaches like Bells Beach and Jan Juc Beach. The Surf Coast Walk trail starts at Point Impossible Beach and heads southwest via Point Danger Marine Sanctuary, with its limestone reef and sea slugs.
In town, the Australian National Surfing Museum displays surf memorabilia.
Torquay is undeniably cool. It’s hip, it’s thriving, and it’s one of Australia’s quintessential surf towns. Like Byron Bay is to Sydney, Torquay is to Melbourne. There are so many things to do in Torquay, Australia – even after you are done soaking up the surf culture.
For the beer lovers, Blackman’s Brewery and Bells Beach Brewing are must-do’s to include when you are planning what to do in Torquay. While offering completely different products, the beers produced here are fresh, local, and inspired by the town’s surf culture.
One place on earth where you decide to skip out of the city life, buy that forever home and retire down by one of the worlds best beaches.

"Getting too built up with new estates"
Really suprised how over developed Torquay and surrounding areas have become. There are a high number of new estates being built between Geelong and Torquay, so it will end up bring like suburbia by the sea. It is nice to live by the beach but I actually think it comes with a big compromise of estate living with no back yard and your neighbour's house squashed next to yours. It depends if you like that kind of thing or not.
It's a fair commute to Melbourne and as it's getting more developed I can imagine the trains becoming extremely busy. Having said that it is a great place to visit. A good place to stay over and have a holiday before driving along the great ocean road.

"Seaside retreat for the young at heart"
A great seaside location at the start of the Great Ocean Road. With new estates like The Quay and The Sands, it's a maximum 20 minute walk from the edge of Torquay to the centre of town. With a good mix of seniors and young families this is an enjoyable place to live. With a natural beach and parks nearby you couldn't find a better location. Residents love to walk to the shops and restaurants so it is very safe.
Great for
- Walk to shops and restaurants.
- Quiet beachside location for most of year.
- Nice neighbours.
Not great for
- Tourists during Summer months.

"I am over it"
Used to be agreat place, but the developers have moved in and lots of ugly concrete boxes appearing.
The water is much too cold to swim without a wetsuit.
If you think it's an alternative to Nth NSW or QLD then you are mistaken.
Lots of bad mouthed types with new money especially footballers.
Sold out so I am glad to get out.
Off to Nth NSw for us..sick of cold water

Yes I agree about the idiots in Torquay with new money!! Purchased a block with a lovely aspect a few years back with the idea of building a holiday home on it. Well, bugger me, the first time I met my neighbour I had to restrain myself from punching him in the head because he was so rude to my wife and I! I understand that he is a cashed up builder transplanted from the Western suburbs. I purchased in this area thinking I would have well mannered yuppies living next door if I ever built a home there! I grew up in a rough area but even the crims had better manners than this goose with the most expensive house in the street. If I ever move to Torquay from my home in WA, I hope this joker has learned some manners... or at least dental insurance!

"Relaxed coastal living on the Great Ocean Road"
Torquay is a beautiful spot. Situated at the start of the famous Great Ocean Road, Torquay is just 100 kilometres from Melbourne but feels like it could be 1,000 miles away.
The town is known for its famous surfing beach "Bells Beach", which has played a major part in shaping the town's relaxed culture. This beach attracts surfers from around the country and around the globe, as well as a number of surf festivals and music events.
The town has a population of nearly 7,000 and has been growing rapidly. The town offers a number of facilities, including many schools. Huge subdivisions are being built in certain areas, such as the new developments at Ocean View, but there has been quite a lot of public opposition to this.
The only real downside here is the weather - it can often be quite wild, rugged and cold.

"Surf and much much more"
Tired of city living and want to live it up in a surfers paradise? Torquay could be for you. Home to bells Beach and a great surfing competition Torquay has a lot more to offer than just a great beach.
It is a great town not too far from Melbourne with one of the best 'feels' you are likely to experience anywhere.
Shops, there are plenty, especially if you're looking to upgrade the surfing gear, but also for everything else you could need.
restaurants and cafe's abound allowing you to grab a relaxed bite to eat without having to venture far.
For families there are some good schools and more importantly parks and playgrounds where the kids can have a great time.

"A surfer's paradise"
If you are a surfer, you will have no doubt heard of Bells Beach. Torquay hosts the world's longest running professional surfing event each Easter and is a perfect shopping spot. It is home to some of Australia's most well known surfing brands, many of which have outlets where people can grab a bargain. There is also a great selection of cafes where locals relax and take in the sea air and plenty of reserves to enjoy a picnic. A large playground is a favourite with youngsters. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, Torquay could be just what you're looking for.
