"Loving Ipswich - was totally suprised!"

After living in Brisbane all my life, we bought in Eastern Heights a year ago and have absolutely loved it. Ipswich has a great community feel (people take the time to get to know you), beautiful old qld'er homes currently valued at significantly less than other outer Brisbane suburbs, and an emerging caf/restaurant culture. Most underrated area in South East Qld. We now rent out our Eastern Heights house (with great rental return) and have bought a property on Denmark Hill as the forever home. If you're planning to move out here, do a little research on the suburbs expecting strong capital growth, they tend to be the ones with established old Queenslander homes and lots of renovations happening. My picks are: Newtown, Eastern Heights, Sadliers Crossing, Wood End, Denmark Hill and if you're looking for a little cheaper - East Ipswich, Booval and Bundamba (just check the flood maps on the lower suburbs).

Great for

  • Friendly
  • Great Queenslander Homes
  • Cost of living
  • Quiet
  • Food

Not great for

  • Poor night life
  • Some poor planning
  • Hot in summer

I am looking at moving to the Ipswich area later this year, there are some good, and some really bad reviews, its a bit of a concern as Im moving states, so havent had a chance to look around much, can you tell me what areas you think are the best, Im middle age with no young children, and which areas to avoid, would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Sue

sue believe the bad reviews. The place is full of crime. Just check out QLD crime stats. Ipswich is the highest in the state. If you want a nice area, try the St Lucia, Indooroopilly, Toowong. Lovely walks around the Uni, and safe.

Anywhere close to the University of Qld - St Lucia, Taringa, Indooroopilly, Toowong, Dutton Park, Fairfield. Rentals are in demand due to international students and casual academic staff. Beautiful place to live, but much pricier to buy into than Ipswich.

Good luck anyone buying in Western Suburbs as prices are insane. Not everyone can afford this area and have to look at alternatives such as Ipswich.

Ipswich is good. We just moved here . eastern heights and new town , silkstone are very nice. Good local shops and close to queens park and zoo, check out the children library is super. These heritage type of Queenslander house are very nice. Good for family and retirement. The place is not so safe is the trans link station in central Ipswich. Its like all town or sub , These big bus or train station is not that safe . Leichhard is changing with new estates. But check the flood map before buying house. However these flood zone house is very cheap. If no flood in the next ten or more years then its ok to buy . I guess the local government is trying to improve and protect house in these area as you can see lots of construction is going on .

There are about 40+ subs in Ipswich. Really need to know the area. Springfield is one of the good area which is a sub of Ipswich too. Its 20 mins from Ipswich centre and Eastern heights, Newtown , silkstone, raceview are all good suburbs which are very close to queens park .

Is that goodna? If people use a few bad areas to say the whole area is not good, then probably should live in Mars .

We moved to north ipswich a year ago from near Sydney. We love it. Its a great area, close to everything, shops, freeway, train station, nice maintained houses mostly, good schools. The houses are a huge percentage of home owner occupied. Ipswich has come a long way even in the year we have been here. Theres so much to do and the council are really putting money into making it nicer. I dont think theres many old ipswichers left. Most have been forced to move out laidly ect due to prices of houses.

"Backwards Town"

Lived here for few months in Redbank Plains after I had graduated. Shared a house with two Australians one was on on centerlink and a drug user who spent his time on drugs, alcohol and video games. The neighborhood kids mostly Samoans were loud noisy and would aggressively confront you as you drove you car through the streets. There was a murder of an elderly woman in a shopping mall nearby by a group of violent teenagers mostly of African origin. Occasionally you would meet large and dangerous stray dogs on the street. Eventually I decided to leave this place and go back to my home country as I believe I was wasting my talents and gifts in this uninspiring place.

"We love north ipswich"

We moved to north Ipswich 1 year ago, it’s a great place for our young family. Close to the freeway, schools, train station, shops. It’s really central to everything and close enough maybe 35-40 minutes to brisbane airport. I think most of the people who have Ipswich a reputation have had to move further out laidly ect due to house prices skyrocketing. Most houses around us are well maintained and being done up. We will definitely buy around north ipswich when we buy a bigger house. Mostly home owner occupied houses and they’re mostly young established couples. It’s come a long way even in the year and a half we have been here. The council is great and they are really putting money into doing it up.

"A lot of potential in Ipswich!"

I have lived in Ipswich ever since I was pregnant with my first son. I had no much knowledge about the area but as I live I found Ipswich is in a lot of potential! Everything is so handy and getting better. To be honest, some people can be nasty since I got a couple of racism while walking around parks. But in fact, there are bad people anywhere even in good area so if someone asked me whether ippy is an worthwhile area to move in then I would always say YES!

"Ipswich is beautiful"

Ipswich is a beautiful place, lots of charming heritage houses.
There are new library for children with advanced technology , the Parks are very nice and zoo is free. Many cafes and restaurants you can walk to them. Good girl and boy private schools. A few public and private schools.
If people have bad and horrible experience is not because Ipswich, is because the drug/alcohol evil spirits ruined some areas like it ruins all places in the world.

"Ipswich is getting trendy, it isn’t like it use to be. Cafes, restaurants and nice shops."

We bought in Ipswich (Newtown - CBD /historic area). We moved here because of house prices, beautiful Queenslanders at reasonable prices to Brisbane (30 mins away). We had family try and tell us not to buy out here (has a historical stigma), but since visiting regularly have completely changed their minds. CBD is being renovated and historic buildings being renovated too. Fantastic schools, parks, cafes/restaurants and shops. Check it out!

"Ipswich is the best"

I'm a kiwi mum with 3 young gremlins. We have lived in and around the Brisbane area for a bit over10 years. 6 years ago we moved out to Ipswich and it was honestly the BEST decision we made. The houses are affordable to rent with lots of old Queensland's on decent sized blocks to choose from. There are lots of parks, shopping centres, playgrounds and public gardens around Ipswich that are utilised frequently. Ipswich is a very family oriented city with plenty of great schools, health care facilities, there are lots of jobs with the ever growing infrastructure. This is a great place to raise kids. There are plenty of different community programs to choose from and are openly welcomed to the groups to join in the fun. There is a brand new childrens library in the heart of Ipswich city and plenty of history around to read about. If you're a foodie - there are LOTS of restraunts, pubs and cafes to sink your teeth into. Heisenberg house, Dovetails & Char’d Steakhouse are three of my families personal favourites. If you're thinking of moving to the area... DO IT!! 10/10 recommend.

"Ipswich is great, we bought in Ipswich Central"

We moved to Ipswich central area from Brisbane. We moved because of house prices and proximity to Brisbane - we snapped up a beautiful old Queenslander (needs works) for under 300 k. We regularly walk to the ‘top of town’ for coffee (10 minutes walk from Our house - top of town is a historical area with old buildings that house shops/cafes) there are five excellent cafes we frequent and with the redevelopment of the main mall underway currently more shops/eats will be on offer shortly nearby. We can’t wait for the redevelopment to finish with new shops, restaurants/cafes and new cinema, it is really exciting. There are also heaps of beautiful pubs on offer here too - go no further then the Victorian TAFE building, over 100 years old and beautifully restored. Ipswich has so many historic buildings which have been saved, mostly because the developers kept away owing to the social-economic situation of the area. This is passing as Ipswich is gentrifying fast and house prices are going up. In relation to the scenery in the area it is stunning, for example in Sadliers Crossing there are stunning mountain views to scenic rim. There is a huge hospital here, beautiful historic parks live Queens Park for example, built in 1860’s and is truely like an old English park you would see in London, has a free zoo to boot and a traditional Japanese garden built with assistance from Council’s sister city in Japan. Overall, Ipswich has surprised us, heaps of services, friendly people (you know your neighbours here, so weird at first for us coming from Brisbane - but really nice), we have never had a crime issue here - I think that it may have in the past, but not recently, as it has significantly changed.

"Quiet, peaceful, on the up"

I brought my first home in Bundamba, and I love it so much. The street is very quiet, mainly older residence, beautiful parks nearby, the Ipswich main street has some great cafes and restaurants. My mortgage is laughably affordable, and now I'm getting a great rental return after moving away with the defence force. Don't listen to the people who bag out ipswich, it's great and so close to a major CBD

Hi Sunshinec, I can do my best, I really enjoyed living in Bundamba, its only 25-30 minutes from Brisbane CBD and Ipswich city has gotten quite nice I think, though most people will just instantly say its crap, I dont think so. "Beautiful character homes and 40 mins drive to Brisbane"

We love Queenslander/character homes, but we couldn't afford one in Brisbane that wasn't completely decrepit. So, we bought a gorgeous, renovated and expansive Queenslander home in Ipswich (for about 1/3rd of Brisbane prices). We absolutely love it! The traffic is minimal, we have great neighbours and it is very peaceful with beautiful views. There are not a lot of great restaurants in Ipswich, but we are only 40 mins drive to West End! If you lived in Sydney or Melbourne you would probably be driving 1-2hours/day to your workplace, so why not move to Ipswich where you can afford a beautiful home for you and your family? My recommendations for nice areas in Ipswich are: around Denmark Hill (the water tower) and anywhere near the Grammar schools. I highly recommend this beautiful, historic town!

"Consider it outer suburban Brisbane and you're set"

Come from Melbourne or Sydney where the outer suburbs are 1hr out from the city centre, and Ipswich quickly makes sense as an outer suburban area to Brisbane. Housing at half the price of the closer suburbs, and anywhere from 20 to 45mins from Brisbane City, 1hr to Gold Coast theme parks and just over an hour to Gold Coast beaches.

As a place to live, it's got all the necessities, and the food and entertainment culture is building. It's hard to say if food and entertainment will ever kick off in the centre of Ipswich, but a 30min drive or 45min train to Brisbane City makes it irrelevant.

Plenty of manufacturing and agriculture support works support employment in the area, however there is significant room to improve in the manufacturing space, with Swanbank a particular region of interest for growth.

The locals are family friendly and generally keep to themselves. There is an inherent resistance to multiculturalism, and I would describe Ipswich as "the whitest place in SEQ", but if you can get past that then it's a great place to be.

It is an area that springboards on its surrounds. Want a day trip drive up to Mount Glorious or Wivenhoe, you're there in a flash. Head up to Toowoomba for a day trip in an hour. Heading south through Warwick and you've got a head start.

With areas north of the Warrego having extremely affordable acreage without the traffic hassles of Mount Lindesay Highway, it's a great place for a treechange.

For suburban families looking for that extra few hundred square meters of land for a big shed and a pool, suburbs from Dinmore through Bundamba offer great value.

Whilst the mercury may be a few degrees hotter than its coastal counterparts, the humidity is reduced enough to make it comparably comfortable.

Overall, if you can deal with a bit of the bogan culture, Ipswich and it's eastern suburbs have everything you need to live comfortably on a budget. Maybe even affords you the luxury of that fancy holiday or weekend trips that you've wanted.

It’s so affordable so much to do with the kids . It has a mix of people but that gives it character. All the People I have meet at Ipswich are great . Everyone is so friendly. I was worried about moving here as it has a bad rep to people in brissy but it’s not what people think it’s not a bad place . It does have a few bad suburbs I would stay away from but also beautiful suburbs to like most small towns .

The great thing about Ipswich is transparency. You can check the flood zone maps by individual properties at Ipswichplanning.com. Brisbane on the other hand doesn't make that information public or easily accessible.

The schools I've been to here are horrible, apart from this one school I like: Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre.
The art gallery doesn't appear to feature digital artworks. I would preferably live in Brisbane if I could. Seems like theres more to do there.

"Nice and vibrant town"

We are partly retired couple living right in the centre of Ipswich town. We moved here 7 years ago from Clifton (40k from Toowoomba) We found the town is small but facilities of a big city especially library, hospital and shopping mall. People here are nice, friendly and tolerant. Of the course there are sometimes little social problem happened but Ipswich is not the only place in the world has got that. Please don't rate Ipswich as a horrible place, unsafe and is Centrelink's industry.
We are in our 60's and still working. We live in a spacious home and walked our dog nightly . We have never seen any disturbance scenes on the streets during our 7 years here .
We are proud of Ipswich and happy to be Ipswich residents.

"Ipswich: Not as bad as you hear!!!"

Ipswich has a bad reputation from the outside people. But if you move there you will quickly realize that it isn't as bad as people say. Yes some areas are worse then others but that is the same with every city. It does need some work on retail areas as the only shops that are around are in the suburbs or at Riverlink.

"A decaying city"

Going south on the Ipswich train line, Oxley is where civilization ends and the barbaric world begins. Ipswich is in the heart of the latter, a town on life support, without a future, full of low-IQ, shoeless, sweat-smelling, alcoholic bogans who breed a lot and live on welfare, and a corrupt government (the last administration was replaced because they were caught stealing money). I cannot think of anything worse than getting up every day of your life in that town (or even just working there), except probably doing the same thing in a ghetto in Detroit or Cape Town. I lived about 7 km from Ipswich only because in Brisbane (as in most places in Australia) it is very difficult to find a pet-friendly house in a safe neighborhood that doesn't break your wallet.

7

I disagree in regards to finding pet friendly rental properties, never had any trouble with finding a rental property at all with my small pooch. Been renting over 10 plus years here and in Qld and Vic. :)

Catalincatalin Maybe you just need to get a life. We have lived in Ipswich for 17 years having moved here from Paddington in Brisbane. There is bad in both places but I have had less trouble in Ipswich than Paddington. Ipswich is great. It has it's moments but every town does. I don't want to move from here. We have rental properties and could move away but we don't wan to. This is home. Our new Council is fantastic.

Jacquipirie, with all due respect, if you find the sight of dirty, smelly people walking without shoes in the place where you buy your food and the sound of obscenities being uttered every day on the train when you're on your way to work 'great', then you are a very easy person to please. I am glad that you feel happy in Ipswich. I didn't, so I left. I got, as you might say, a life, just in a better place:)

Unsafe city. Never felt safe living here, due to drug users and abusive people. Ipswich’s greatest industry is Centrelink. A city that has zero pride in itself, if you doubt that statement just take a drive or a walk (if you feel like living dangerously) around the CBD.

Thats very exaggerated. Some suburbs are better than others obviously. Ive never been hassled in the 7 years I have lived here yet every time I go into Brisbane City I get hassled. Go figure! In saying that if I didnt like Chuwar and my house then I wouldnt stay here.

I completely agree, never felt more unsafe in my life.. dodgy neighbours who watch your every move as you come and go from work.. was waiting for the day I would come home to find my house robbed. Moved as soon as I could. Called police on 2 sets of my neighbours and was threatened by one neighbour when I asked if he could close his windows when yelling abuse at his wife. Im a female, was scared.

I have lived and worked in Ipswich the last 15 years and love it. Never encountered a problem. Had more problems with crime in Hawthorne in Brisbane where I used to live than here. Far less crowded and traffic, but with great amenities. People are salt of the earth in general . Unfortunately you can find bad neighbours anywhere. My kids went to great schools here.

"Ipswich: Do not go there."

I lived in Ipswich for four years, Sadlier's Crossing, Boovall and One Mile. If you like finding used syringes 50 metres from your front gate, neighbours fighting in the street and attacking each other with bats, being stuck between two neighbours that feud, so they throw empty bottles across your yard at each other, blow themselves up (yes, blow themselves up with petrol), wreck shared fences, collect junk and broken down cars, so that snakes and rodents live under the wrecked bonnets, etc, high crime, hooning in the streets, then by all means move to this town that is nothing more than a centre for Brisbane City rejects.

If you like golf ball bombs being found in the local parks, by all means move to this hole.

If you like your council to leave the CBD and suburbs decay to state, that they are an absolute disgrace, then by all means move to this hell hole.

In closing I wouldn't raise a mongrel dog in Ipswich, let alone a family.

Not great for

  • Bogans
  • High crime
  • Used syringes
  • Some poor planning
  • Lappers

I've lived in One Mile and now Leichhardt and have to agree with you. While there are some good people the bad outlays the good. When I first moved here I found there were so many agro people.. Especially in areas like Bell street. I think Brassall and Booval are probably the only places in Ipswich worth moving to.

"Great place for small and big families"

Close to all things, such as, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast. Great schools, shops are nice. When I first moved to Ipswich I was scared, I don't even know why? But as soon as I got there, everyone was friendly, it was clean and tidy. No rubbish on the streets to be seen, and night life has a surprisingly good vibe to it.

Decent restraurants, and an amazing library.

"Come a long way over the past few years."

I have to admit that Ipswich has come a very long way over the past few years. It's definitely a city that you need to explore yourself to make your own mind up. It's filled with wonderful parks and gardens. Queens Park Wldlife Park and the Japanese Gardens are a must. Amazing Cafes and restaurants have committed to Ipswich and are reaping the rewards. Fantastic history combined with very well maintained historical homes. Lovely friendly neighbourhoods. It's a city that is moving forward and worth a look.

"Lovely city - ignore all the bad press you read about Ipswich"

Great place to live and raise children. Friendly small city. Very active city council who have a strong vision for improving the city. Poor retail but has improved over the past decade. Ipswich Motorway is a fantastic road now since a long overdue upgrade.

Needs more restaurants and cafes. Everything pretty much closes by 8 or 9pm!! Could be a really happening place with its laid back atmosphere, a cafe culture waiting to happen.

There are a few bogans and weirdos in Ipswich, but you get those kind of people everywhere. Pick the suburb well if you're moving to Ipswich and it won't be an issue. There are many very pretty, affordable, and safe suburbs.

If only Brisbane people would stop looking down their noses at Ipswich, they might realise what a really pretty city it is, and what great value real estate and housing is available.

Hi, what areas in Ipswich would you recommend, and what suburbs to avoid?
Thanks, sue

tamarad6

It is so hard to get a response to this question! Im wondering how you choose (from afar), too.

greer-chasec

Avoid Leichhardt, One Mile, Booval...I lived centrally for a year and liked it, had a friend In Churchill and in Tivoli both nicer areas..good luck:)

Well if you choose to ignore the bad press, maybe look up the official crime stats for QLD. Highest crime rate in the state. The place is full of drugs and alcohol.

"Not what I expected."

My hubby was posted to amberley with the army 3 years ago and i had heard horrible things about ipswich. so when we moved i was quite surprised. i feel safe here. there are some odd looking people around but they seem to be harmless. you do get a few loud bogans in ipswich square, but thats about it. the only thing i dont really like about this place is the lack of variety in the retail sectors. this place needs more shopping, night life. restaurants. affordable housing too which is great.

Which area did you move to. My son is being posted to Amberley and needs to find accommodation within 30 min drive if possible. Trying to find an apartment or townhouse if possible but don't know the areas well enough to know which areas are the better areas to live in. any help would be greatly appreciated.

phoibe2707

Hi, if he is being posted to Amberley he should have the option of living on base? And would require approval to live off base. We lived in defence housing initially in Raceview and then in flinders view, flindersview was a lot nicer and Yamanto was also good.

"Like any city, pick the right area."

A city on the up. We just need growth to be better managed and our history better respected. How the heck does Ipswich rate as low as a 69/100? I have lived in places such as Sydney, Brisbane and North Queensland and they are no where near as good as Ipswich. Great community spirit here, friendly locals, but there is a 'bogan lapper' element. Harmless enough though. Some great established places to eat too. Some fly by nighters have come and gone thinking they can serve up poor quality food because after all, it is 'only Ipswich'. Please, if you are coming here to open a second rate eating establishment, don't bother. With only a small tourist market here, you need local patronage, so bad word of mouth will have you broke in no time. Otherwise, please come, we need more cultures here bringing great food! Great place for kids, plenty of parks and good schools.

"Ipswich is a special place in rapid transition."

With new and upgraded roads making times and distances to travel to Brisbane shorter, Ipswich is in a truely unique position. I am certain that it will become the much valued "historical centre of South East Queensland".

Ipswich will experience very high population growth over the next 20 years and the many things that Ipswich people have taken for granted for so long such as the many great parks, the historic buildings, the wonderful gracious character houses, the great natural environment around the river, and the safe and quiet streets, will be the motivation to attract more people (richer and poorer) to settle there. In fact, the council really has its work cut out to manage that situation and to keep the urban revitalisation positive and balanaced so that all the good things are retained and enhanced.

Over the coming years we will continue to see many of the older timber houses extended and most will be renovated far beyond their former glory. Thankfully much of Ipswich's 100+ year old character has been preserved due to the lack of re-development and big commercially driven changes in and around the inner city suburbs over the past 60 years. There are still so many magnificiant colonials and beautiful Queenslanders there.

Unfortunately however, something that will change over time is the present availability of cheap housing and low rents - particularly in the inner city suburbs.

Because Ipswich has its own distinct civic character and history it will never be seen as just a satalite regional centre of Brisbane - it will always be it's own "city" - standing proud and tall !!

"Bad news for those who live near the river"

North Ipswich, once a quiet forgotten suburb of workers cottages and old colonials, now the centre of new development with RiverLink and plans for three bridges, a foot bridge and highrise development. Many houses in this area were under water in the 1974 flood. House prices have soared yet the facilities such as having proper drainage (storm water), good street lighting and parking have been ignored in the rush to capitalise on this once forgotten part of Ipswich.

More and more properties have been halved and new houses and appartments are going up everywhere yet no allowances have been made for adequate drainage for all this new development. Recent heavy rains saw some houses near Cribb Park flowing with knee deep water, mud and debris on a regular basis. Houses that had weathered earlier rainy seasons easily now flood more frequently due to inadequate drainage. Look carefully before you rent or buy in this area or any area close to the river. Ask the neighbours about the 74 flood and rent or buy above the flood line.

I guess that is why it has such high crime and unemployment. Stand proud and tall by all means. But I wouldn't raise a mongrel yellow dog there let alone my family. 4 years of living there, and it was the worst experience of my life.

"FANTASTIC for family life"

You can’t say you truly know a place until you live there, we moved to Ipswich about 8 months ago to buy our 1st home. There are fantastic rivers for fishing and swimming if you know the spots, Ipswich is defiantly growing with people moving here on a daily bases and new shops opening quite regularly. Some people are rough around the edgers but your have to remember where Ipswich is located; you are obviously not going to have a lot of men in business attire, the men out here are hard working labour types (along with a lot of the women) as that is the main type of work in and around Ipswich, Abattoir, Mining, Farming, Air Base and so forth. I have travelled and lived in a lot of places and the locals here are no different to anywhere else except maybe being a little more relaxed then people that in live directly in Brisbane and more down to earth then people that live on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast (lived in all 3 places + more). If you love the beautiful country and want to bring up a family with good schools then Ipswich is a great place to live, with helpful locals that still give you a wave as you pass on a country road, In my opinion Ipswich is cleaner and less polluted then the Gold Coast and Brisbane, and MUCH less crowded then the Sunshine Coast, as beautiful as it is. FANTASTIC for family life.

"Not as bad as it reputation!"

Living here for 6 months now. I was very nervous about moving here because of things i had heard about Ipswich. I havent had any problems here. I will say overall it could be kept a little cleaner such as the free paper outside peoples houses, seems to be alot of places where people just dont clean out the front of their house. The other thing Ipswich does lack is water nearby. There really isnt good places to go fishing or boating. One of the biggest things i have noticed also is that i cant drive anywhere without seeing at least one police car, which means the police are everywhere, not to mention they now have cameras all over the city. Overall a good place to live, there are good parks nearby.

It is just a matter of time before you see the real Ipswich. I was born and raised in Ipswich. Why do you think there are so many cameras?

NilaRose
NilaRose

Nice people don't scared/hate cameras. By the way, you have a "nice" name on your profile?

bexfreedom

LOL, The crime rate is so low in Ipswich and that may be due to the police presence and camera's (which I think is a good thing) or really maybe it's just the "crime" is next to non existent. We own our home in Ipswich but moved to Cairns because of a work transfer, oh my goodness do I miss home! There are camera's and police everywhere here too but that dose not stop the crime. We never, ever had problems in Ipswich and a year in Cairns we have had an $800.00 bike stolen along with my wallet and toys not to mention being attacked verbally on a few occasions while minding our own business (maybe it's that "tropical fever")! And if papers was the only mess we had to deal with up here in Cairns, that would be nice. I would walk down the street in Ipswich any night over Cairns.

peterbgg

Low crime in Ipswich? That's a new one. Have you checked the QPS stats or are you just speculating.

https://www.police.qld.gov.au/rti/published/about/Crime+Statistics.htm

garfieldf

Hi peterbgg, what suburb do u live. I thought about moving to ipswich because of affordability but these reviews are pretty bad.

bexfreedom

peterbgg lol speculating, no. No need for the link thank you as that is where I went for the statistics originally. Currently (12/2020), for the same period in the "local government areas" the findings are as follows (all offences included) Brisbane 20,358 Gold Coast 10,429 Logan 6,662 Ipswich 4281 and the Sunshine Coast 3677, just to name a few so I don't think Ipswich is fairing too badly (Ref: https://qps-ocm.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/index.html.) As you can see, there is not a huge difference between the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich and yet, the Sunshine Coast is classed as a retirement "safe haven" and all round lovely place to live, far from it in my experience though. On a positive note for Ipswich, the house prices are considerably less and in my personal experience I'm happy with the "LOW" (again, personal opinion and experience) crime rate. Maybe the word "low" was not to your liking, however the stats don't lie and it is lower then some and comparable to others. I know some lovely people who bought in very exclusive areas in inner Brisbane years ago, their houses literally now into the millions and yet I hear the stories of drug dealers who buy in their streets, shootouts and the high crime rate, scum are everywhere and it's amazing how money can't even remove dead beats! Maybe your could suggest an area that comes without problems? That's would be "a new one."

"Ipswich - Growing community close to brisbane"

Ipswich is about a 40 drive west of Brisbane and is a thriving community with plenty of growth. There is plenty to do including looking at the many historic buildings this town has. You can also visit Nerima Gardens, The Workshops Rail Museum, Ipswich Art Gallery or the Nature Centre. There are a number of bushwalks for your enjoyment with some great sights. The town has some really good restaurants and bistros as well as plenty of shopping with major shopping centres as well and smaller boutique and specialty shops scattered area the district. For your accommodation needs there are B & B's, serviced apartments, hotels and motels. Living in Ipswich has many advantages with schools, sporting and recreational facilities and home prices still with reach but rising quickly.

"The home of Pauline Hanson. A rapidly growing city."

Yes, the home of Pauline Hanson, is that a good thing or a bad thing, I will leave that up to you.

The city of Ipswich has been growing rapidly. Not so long ago real estate was cheap in Ipswich and there was a demand for rental properties, and the investors flocked to the area and invested in the older houses. Hence, the real estate prices went up.

The council is determined to upgrade the city and are taking steps to make sure this happens and happens in a positive way.

Ipswich is the centre of the farming area at the base of the Darling Ranges and the last major city before heading up to Toowoomba. It is a very busy place.

The weather takes a bit to contend with. It has extremes of temperatures.
