Reviews of Wynnum, QLD
"I love this place!"
I've lived in the Wynnum-Manly area my whole life... I love the place! The waterfront is a highlight, bringing the locals and visitors to it for a bbq, a picnic, or a walk by the bay. There are great parks for the kids, including a new water park, a heritage listed wading pool that's over 120m long, and plenty of fish and chip shops for a good feed! Wynnum has an abundance of coffee shops, even including a dog friendly one! There are 3 train stations running through Wynnum, and regular council buses. There are great sporting facilities and teams, and great schools, both public and private. Every suburb has some negatives. I guess for Wynnum the original shopping precinct of Wynnum Central could really benefit from a make-over, while retaining the quaint shopping experience you simply can't get in a major shopping centre. Here is a compilation of photos I put together showing our beautiful area... https://youtu.be/XmDgUID0y7w

I am thinking of moving here. I just turned 40, looking to start a new life. Any suggestions in property or anything really would be very much appreciated. X

"A Great Place To Live"
.Wynnum is a friendly place to live with a country atmosphere with all conveniences right at your doorstep. Located minutes drive to one of the best marinas in the country, Wynnum is blessed with an excellent public transport system, great schools, parks and places to eat.

"Wynnum Manly area"
My family lived in Wynnum West for 40 years so I did all my schooling in the area. I am now based at Ray White Wynnum Manly. Property has been in very good demand being the closest bayside suburb to Brisbane CBD. We have achieved some excellent results for our clients particularly in recent months, due to the limited amount of available listings vs a high level of buyer numbers. Wynnum and surrounding suburbs are close to all services and is also easily accessible to the Gateway Motorway.

"Love it especially the community feel"
It is a suburb that keeps improving. You can feel the friendly spirit as you walk along the waterfront and people smile and say Good Morning. With the new cinema, restaurants, bars and cafes it just keeps getting better. And now the community have done a community mural - love it.

"Beautiful Bayside"
Located next to the beautiful Moreton Bay - this suburb is its own community and offers plenty of walking tracks and bike paths, the Wynnum Wading Pool and water-play area, Jetty and the nearby Manly Boat Harbour. Wynnum also provides a variety of schools, parks, weekend markets, Wynnum Golf Club and some great cafes. It's a great place to live or the perfect location for a weekend visit for adventure by the bay.

"WATCH THIS SPACE"
I may be a tiny bit bias as I moved here back in 1981. I just love the bayside and will never leave as the summer days are around 3-4 degrees cooler and winters are more mild than the western suburbs. I always recall when I first thought about moving here an elderly local gentleman asked "are you thinking of moving here?" to which I replied yes and he then said if you do you will never leave. Well how right he was 38 years ago... and now I'm living in my 5th bayside suburb. We are only 5 minutes to the gateway motorway so you can be up or down the coast within an hour, 15 minutes to the international airport plus numerous cafes (with many more to come) and major shopping centres just 15 minutes drive. On top of this there are 5 train stations to get you to the city, great schools and of course the beautiful Moreton bay for those fishing and boating enthusiasts. Once the 7 theatre movie complex is completed (approx. 2020) I think you will really see some major changes to this once sleepy little seaside village...WATCH THIS SPACE

Hi, can you tell me what the area is like for owning/having a dog, in terms of exercise & off-leash areas (large dog! Lab/collie/huntaway) - thinking of exporting our dog when we come (maybe later this year) and would be good to know if it's an ok area for him. Did see there was a 'dog friendly' caf in one of the comments. Thanks
Its the closest Bayside suburb to Brisbane CBD.
Properties in Wynnum are still remarkably affordable compared to bayside suburbs in other major Australian cities.
Its almost like Brisbane hasnt realised the value of property close to the sea.
Saying this there has been quite a bit of development in recently in Wynnum so this may change.
Wynnum is great for dogs. We have an energetic mini labradoodle and she loves it (i can tell). There is a really good sized off lease area at Elanora park with an area for smaller dogs too. There's another one at Lota and Manly has now got an off leash beach area behind one of the yacht clubs. The mangrove boardwalk itself is great for a trot round. It's nice and shady so it's good for the hot days. The foreshore is just great for a walk around. Loads of the cafes are dog friendly (Banter, Groundhog social, Manly kitchen, Caffeination Station - just off the top of my head). In fact they'll give you a free dog biscuit at Caffeination station and the tables don't have numbers - you take a picture of a dog and they find your table from that. I think it should almost be mandatory to have a dog if you move here - it's so nice for them.
Thanks for info; were coming for a visit weekend of 6-8 March, so will defo be exploring the area! Dog friendly cafes sound wonderful.
"Lifts the spirits"
Beautiful bay views, surprisingly well connected to motorways, CBD, and airport and very friendly. My heart always lifts when I see the bay. I love it. New cinema being built and several craft beer places / restaurants moving in. It's all good.

Great place to move a young family too - the area will only improve over the coming years as the city grows and bayside areas become more and more desirable.
Friendly community.

"Beautiful."
Wynnum is gorgeous. Not as good as it was when it was a sleepy seaside village now vastly over populated but still very lovely. I guess the seaside will always be overbuilt as the country grows just have to adapt. Kids love the water whale park and the swimming hole. Great place for a picnic.

"Brisbane's Bright Coastal Suburb"
Today the suburb of Wynnum is ever-popular amongst the locals who take advantage of its Jetty, children’s play parks, wading pool and natural mangrove walks amongst many other attractions.
Wynnum is seeing a revival with some staggeringly beautiful homes being developed where areas of land once lay forgotten. Hills and flats offer an array of views from many properties along this coastal suburb, not only of the sea and its islands but of some of nature’s best kept secrets…it’s mangroves, natural reserves and wildlife are abundant and certain to spread a smile to your face.
The strong café and local business vibe together with its family friendly parks and trails makes this area one to favour for the lifestyle-conscious. The roots of Wynnum stretch back to its Aboriginal ancestry with the name deriving from a Pandanus Palm found along the shoreline, and the small ‘Pandanus beach’ is still enjoyed by adults and children alike.

"Easy Breezy Suburb"
I lived at Wynnum from when I was 13 - 22. If you are active or have a dog, it's a great suburb. There are plenty of walking/biking tracks right by the water and it's a nice and cool place to exercise. The dog park at Wynnum North is the best I have been to. It's very busy and there is heaps of space. When I first moved, Wynnum was lacking trendy coffee shops/cafes but this has completely changed now. There are heaps of cute spots to grab a bite to eat not unlike Bulimba. Wynnum doesn't have much of a nightlife and can be boring but you can catch the train to the city. If you don't drive, the train stations are not really in convenient locations so you will most likely need to walk 10 - 15 mins to access them. Otherwise, it's a great suburb.

Hey Alex, what do you know about the streets away from the bay, like Louise St, West Ave near Wynnum golf course. Do you know if that area is family friendly or is it a bit rough?
Yes I would like to know the same...considering moving from Sydney and have read varying reports about the same.
Hi, I used to live not far from the Wynnum golf course and have always heard that the streets surrounding it are a bit snooty. It's a posh area - not rough at all. The only areas in Wynnum I would consider a bit rough are streets near Wynnum central train station and back streets of Wynnum North... Wynnum is getting more and more expensive to buy into and rent though so eventually the prices will surely cut out a lot of the riff raff.
Thanks Alex for taking time to respond. Your opinion was helpful :)
I meant your comment, not opinion. I was reading the word opinion at the bottom at the same time and typed it in error. Cheers

"Defaulted to Wynnum, loving it."
It was a happy accident. I had moved to Manly in 2009 and started looking for a house to buy in 2010. I wasn't in a rush and values were relatively stable, so I wasn't going to get suddenly priced out of the market. Wynnum was my local town for shopping. Manly was overpriced in my opinion. Wynnum which was traditionally a more blue collar town gave a lot more bang for my buck. My better half is Wynnum born and bred and is totally biased. I looked at a few dozen properties and chose one that I liked. I have grown to love the town. It's not perfect. Nowhere is. If you are considering moving here take a cold hearted look at what is here. Odds on you will be pleasantly surprised. Plaza, New Woolworths, library. Community centre. Biggest off leash park in Brisbane. The walk along the esplanade in the cool of the evening cannot be matched. The wading pool, barbecues and facilities are clean and well maintained. I don't work in the city now, but when I did the train was the way to go. There is crime in Wynnum as there is in any suburban town. I don't think it is worse than anywhere else around here, but if you are concerned check Qld Police website for the incident map. It will allow you to have a good overview. I don't intend selling any time soon.

"Wynnum Bay Breezes are the best."
Wynnum's climate with bay breezes is some of the best in Brisbane.
It has 3 train stations in the suburb so transport is awesome. Serviced by train so is future prooofed against potential Brisbane increase in population and traffic problems.
It has the port road as a great short cut with no lights to the gateway bridge.
Great good course too

Easy access to the city via train, bus. Lovely new library (excellent). Bay side - Wading pool (free), waterpark for children. Close to Manly - pool and good restaurants.
Lots of lovely new units, town houses, If you love a bargain so many second hand stores with a great variety of good clothes, bric a brac, etc. Very friendly, always a sea breeze to keep you cool. Some new interesting stores popping up. Some way to go but getting there. If you like sailing, paddling, wind surfing or fishing out in the bay this is the best place to live.

"I love Wynnum"
We have just moved here about a year ago, and absolutely love this suburb. Friendly neighborhood and best off all we are close to the bay. The esplanade is a great place to be at day or night and our little one loves the water featured playground.
A stroll along the bay after dinner is very relaxing being accompanied by the fresh cool breeze and sounds of the gentle waves ashore..and sometimes we even get serenaded with live jazz music thanks to the lovely guy who plays his saxaphone :) by the bay.

"Great spot to live & on the way up."
It's a great spot to live. Plenty to do by the water, affordable, easy access to the city/valley (20min drive over the Gateway, 30min via Wynnum Rd), a heap of green space, and great breezes. There is a LOT of construction work going on at the moment - new houses being built all over the place, many more being renovated.
It could do with a few more dining options, but there have been numerous (quality) cafes/bars open in recent months so it appears as though this is changing rapidly.

Great parks, beautiful picnic areas. Terrific op shops and many colorful locals all located by the sea. Interesting to note that all the naysayers forget the highly ranked Manly is basically the same suburb. Construction growth, house renovations and families flocking to the area: this is the beginning of something special. Glad we bought in 2012 as prices are going to soar !

I've lived here a year with more young and professional people moving in by the day. Av age is now 40. 112 development applications since nov 13, new builds everywhere, five new high rises and new library and woolworths. 2009 wynnum manly plan now being followed post gfc. Will soon be at least as expensive as ascot, padding ton, bulimba. Lowest rental vacancy rate in brisbane. quirk mayor publically stated that Wynnum was going to be like Southbank! Can't wait! Agree about the need for cafés and shops, if they build them they will come. Wynnum is on the cusp of becoming a great suburb.
"I used to refer to this suburb as the Hellmouth"
I lived in Wynnum for a few years. It was the most horrible area I have ever lived in. Teenagers roamed the streets threatening and attacking people. Police didn't respond to calls. Public transport was awful. Where I lived I had to walk 30 minutes to get to a train station. The buses were limited and infrequent. There was no nightlife - unless you count being mugged to be a great night out. The shops were pretty backwater. The pubs drew angry drunks. Locals tend to be blind to the violence - the culture of ignorance to this and amount of dogs wandering the street is alarming. I lived by the water - and it smelt terrible. It smelt like a swamp when the tide was out. This suburb is incredibly overrated by bias locals.
Not great for
- Culture of violence
- Outdated business centre
- Bad public transport
- Youth crime
- High rate of robberies and muggings
I don't understand your past tense reference to you 'use to refer to this suburb as Hellmouth' comment?? I don't know when or where you lived in Wynnum but I would vehemently argue every point you make!! Wynnum itself has 3 train stations, plus 3 more nearby at Manly, Lota and Lindum. I have never experienced teenagers or dogs roaming streets, except on leash (dogs not teenagers), never experienced street violence, nor read about it in the paper! As for nightlife, if you want pubs and clubs, don't live in Wynnum, and I would suggest you would get some level of violence at pubs in most suburbs across Brisbane. The valley is renowned for its nightlife, and I can guarantee you it attracts a rowdier crowd. However, if you want a family friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy a nice meal and a few drinks with friends then Brisbane's Seaside is where you'll want to be!
Regards
Biased local for 4 years...and loving it!!
The closest train station was a 30 minute walk from my house. Not helpful at all. In recent years a man was stabbed during the afternoon in a video store in Wynnum Central. Also there was a mini riot - in which a group of 20 teenagers fought with a store owner and he chased them off. I was in a chemist one afternoon when an old woman stumbled in bruised. Visibly shaken and saying a group of teenagers assaulted her and stole her bag. Instead of calling the police they called a cab. That's the kind of oblivious attitude that really disturbed me in Wynnum. People do not notice what goes on in the suburb. A group of teenagers attacked my ex at the train station and tried to mug him. Later those same kids recognized him and actually tried to run us down because he hadn't let them mug him. What an insult right? I called the police and they just told me to avoid them - meanwhile they were waiting outside for us. I had to get a cab home. I went into the station the next day. The police said they knew about the violent crime in the area - but they had trouble doing anything about it because people in the area tend not to report crime. My ex had his house robbed in the middle of the afternoon. A man tried to pull me into his car as I walked home from work. In the place I worked one night there was a fight - the police were called. They showed up hours and hours later after one man had already died from head injuries. As I walked home from work on another night a teenager threatened to stab me if I didn't give him money. One night a dog was out of its yard and it snarled and chased me - snapping at me. I went to a neighbours house to ask for help. To find out who owned the dog. They just laughed and asked if I wanted to try walking past it again. I informed a bouncer near my house about the roaming vicious dog - he laughed and said it would be a good thing if people from that bar got attacked. Seriously worst place I have ever lived.
By the Hellmouth comment - that is what I called Wynnum instead of calling it Wynnum. It's a Buffy reference in which the town was literally on an opening to hell.
http://wynnum-herald.whereilive.com.au/news/story/youth-crime-concern/
^ crime free Wynnum?
"WHILE police say Wynnum streets are safe, teenagers roaming the CBD at night and assaulting and robbing residents have led business owners to plan for action.
Wynnum RSL Services Club’s Russ Wiseman said the situation came to a head about 11.30pm on Friday, June 13 when a group of about 30 teenagers assaulted and robbed residents.
“There were broken noses and split lips,” he said."
"“They grabbed a man (out of his car) while his wife and four-year old were in the vehicle with him.
“It’s getting out of control.”
Mr Wiseman said in the past couple of weeks, tyres had also been punctured with screwdrivers and windows smashed."
"“Police responded to the trouble on Friday night, spoke to youths and interviewed residents, but no one has made an official complaint,” he said." < this is the exact problem the police have. Kids are tearing up the streets attacking people. Yet no one is reporting it. Culture of ignorance and violence.
Exactly my point!! I didn't need clarification what Hellmouth meant but the past tense reference. That report was 5 years ago, prior to me living in Wynnum. I am sure I can conjure up negative press about your beloved Kedron over the past 5 - 10 years.
In the 3 years I have lived here I have experienced nothing of the kind. We rarely even lock our house. If in fact you did experience what you said I am very sorry for your terrifying ordeal but it is not a reflection on the whole area or the people that live in it...especially today.
Wynnum recently made it into the Australian Property Investors Hot 100 Suburbs and one of the main reasons was "changing demographic". I have made many friends in Wynnum in 3 years most of which are professional couples and/or young families. Bulimba 10 years ago had a perception of being a violent suburb and now it is one of the premiere suburbs in Brisbane.
I apologise if I offended you, but I love where I live and think it is a fabulous place to raise a family. Wynnum has had a checkered history but I want people to know violence is a thing of the past.
Regards
I used a past tense because I don't refer to it at all anymore. Because I'm fortunate enough not to live there. The violence and youth crime is still going on.
http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/woman-bashed-in-wynnum-street-attack/story-e6frfkp9-1226287664807
^ A woman was bashed over the head and her wallet was stolen in 2012 by the same group of teenagers that have been plaguing Wynnum for years. I am almost certain by the description that the girl involved in this crime tried to mug me on two occasions. This happens a lot more than is reported. For some reason in Wynnum people just don't report crime to the police. Unless the police were just lazy and were lying to me.
On the 14th of February, 2012, a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in Wynnum West by four teenage boys.
A police officer was assaulted at Wynnum Central Station in 2012. (Of course this was the only case of street violence where an arrest was bothered with)
A doctor was arrested in 2012 for sexually assaulting 4 patients.
There have been several dog attacks within the last 4 years by dogs not being restrained.
The list goes on.
There is a gang of young people that just go around assaulting and robbing people - and no one seems to care. Which is why I will never so much as visit the area again. It's too dangerous if you don't have a car.
Kedron could never compare. No other area I have lived can compare to the violence and ignorance of Wynnum - and at one point I lived close to Ipswich.
Even when I told Wynnum friends about attempted assaults and vicious roaming dogs - they just acted like that was normal and I was just complaining. No other area that I've lived in have people been so accepting of gang violence.
You haven't offended me. I just assume you drive everywhere and haven't walked the streets of Wynnum. Especially around the train stations. I walked everywhere - I started walking 40 minutes to and from work because taking the train took longer - and kids tried to mug me at the stations at night.
After 12 hour days a 40 minute walk was the last thing I wanted to do - but the transport was so bad that even working around two suburbs over was a hassle to get to.
My wife and I regularly catch the train into the city and walk to and from the station at nighy without ever being approached. Wynnum, like any suburb, probably has better and worse areas to be late at night. I still maintain my position that it's a great area. I find it hard to believe that they can continually sweep violence under the rug, particularly based on your suggested frequency and severity. But we are going to have to agree to disagree as we both have had experiences in Wynnum which are polars apart! I hope you enjoy Kedron as much as we enjoy Wynnum. As long as one is happy with their life nothing else matters, whether that's ignorance or fact!
Schools-that is what really worry me. If youth is not so bad as in ScarletEllis posts and Wynnum surburb/s are filled with professionals why the Wynnum State School results are ALL below standard on myschool website? In Indooroopilly (were we are currently residing) even State Schools have much better results(not to mention results are ABOVE standard).
I agree that Cleveland train line is not the worst.Just check Shorncliffe or Beenligh -trains once in 30 min. Various options to travel from Wynnum by car. Markets and festivals. Bayside lifestyle. Manly yacht club and cafes.
What will be locals comments or explanation about consistency in low local school results?
I didn't think the purpose of 'my school' was to compare schools against each other:-)?
What I am talking about is a changing demographics. Many of our friends (including us) have no kids or very young children. Schooling is a legacy issue that will take time to change. Additionally, Wynnum is well supported by respected private schools (Moreton Bay, Iona) and I would suggest their results would be considerably higher.
On a side note I caught up with friends for my birthday Thursday night at the new Mediterranean restaurant in Wynnum CBD Casa Di Louie (which was very good). Both my friends and my wife and I walked home at 10pm after dinner in opposite directions (both love 1.5km away) and neither of us encountered any interference of any kind.
Wow ScarletEllis, our time living in Wynnum didn't seem to be a very happy experience. I grew up in Wynnum, left for a number of years and came back to the area. I am nearing 60 and I know there is crime (there is crime everywhere) but I have never witnessed or experienced anything like you did and I have walked all over Wynnum/Manly. I love this place. It will only get better when the cinema is built and more cafes and restaurants come to the area.
"I was not that impressed, expected a lot more"
I suspect that a lot of these reviews are written by people trying to sell their houses, I was extremely disappointed when I went to Wynnum.
The public transport is not good at all, try and get to the city and set your stop watch, it will take forever. The traffic in peak hour is extremely bad getting in and out of the area. No where near the choice of shopping, dining or entertaining as other suburbs boasting a big price tag and the neighbourly spirit is nothing special at all, people walking around with their heads down and as I passed a few people and smilled and said "hello" I got a nod, a slight smirk and total ignorance. A lot of yuppy couples around and the housing was drab, overpriced and the so called water front and water view properties are not what I would call true waterfronts at all. Council rates are expensive as are water rates and not enough community based sports and activities, rental returns are shocking, a definite no go zone for investing, a number of people have moved back in with parents/inlaws trying to rent out their house to keep it after buying over priced and then havinng the reality check that having a first child and trying to survive on one wage is not feasible.
Not close to the city at all, hard to get in and out of, house prices are declining, people are losing up to $70k selling an average single storey house and up to $250k on a nicer house if they bought it in 2009, see for yourself on the sold prices, terrible performance.
Do your homework, drive in peak hour to where you need to go, check out the local schools, check out the recent sold prices as well as sold prices in 2003, 2007 and 2009, then add up all the reasons you want to move to the suburb. There are a number of more affordable suburbs around, I wont name them here as this review may then appear bias, unless money is no object and you can afford to live opposite the water, then you need to ask yourself what you are getting for your money that is so great about this suburb? If you love the beach then you will still need to drive to the gold coast or the sunshine coast anyway and if you like having a family work / life balance then how could this be done unless you work at the port or in this area, not many people on retail wages and industrial wages can afford to buy here if that is the case.
Each to their own, but I spent a good deal of time here and really talked to the people and checked out the whole area, did the peak hour drive, tried the local eat outs, tried to find all the activities on offer, most were at Manly and that place is over priced even more.
Make sure you check out all the facts before you buy and jump in here, good if your born a local and all your friends and family live here as money can't compare to family and friends, but if your coming into the area away from family and friends, ask yourself why?
Great for
- Good if your a local and want to stay close to family
- Good if you bought in 2002 and are selling now
Not great for
- Bad public transport
- Terrible peak hour traffic
- Over priced and expensive council rates and water rates
- Outdated business centre
- Yet to find a great coffee shop

You didn't do your research very well...
- Wynnum has 3 train stations, takes 35 minutes to the city. Also has buses and a Wynnum/Manly loop bus.
- You can take the Port Road straight to the Gateway Motorway. Takes 10 minutes, if that. maybe you decided to drive all the way along Wynnum road to get to the city. Hmm.
- I work on the city fringes. Takes me a 20 minute (30 minutes at worst) easy commute there and back at peak hour. Again, don't go straight down Wynum Road.
- Not sure if you read the paper but Real Estate prices have gone down everywhere.
- No, there isn't great entertainment hotspots, and I agree that is an area that could be improved on, but the playgrounds on the waterfront are brilliant, it's very family friendly - as can be jusdge by the packed Esplanade every weekend.
- No, there isn't a beach but it's a fantastic place for boating/fishing (if you're into that type of thing)
- Council rates are actually quite reasonable and water rates are the same Brisbane wide (!?)
- What do you call 'true waterfront'? Last time I checked Moreton Bay had lots of water, and personally love the view of the bay, bay islands and sail boats.
I'm not a real estate agent, I'm not a longtime local (only lived here 2 years), I don't have family here and I have no intention of selling my house. Yes, central Wynnum needs a facelift (and is slowly), and isn't the best place to eat out (unless you like fish and chips) but it is great family area, great lifestyle (nothing like an afternon walk along the water, or being 2 minutes from a boat ramp), and has some exciting projects in the works (ie recently aquired Wynnum Central state school site), good public transport, good broadband coverage. Unpolished Gem! I think Wynnum has an exciting future and I love living here.
Yes it's all rubbish...I can't imagine why no one in the street would talk to her!
Everyone knows there are no beaches on the mainland north of the gold coast spit or south of caloundra. I don't see what this has to do with wynnum.
she also says that getting to the city will take forever and yet in her review of wellington point, which is much further out, she says that "The traffic in peak hour is minimal and there are plently or options of different roads and backways to take to get into the city or just get the train". It is really hard to make sense of this person.
You probably didn't stay long enough to get an idea of what the area is like. I don't live there now but did for several years. I disagree with the comment about the lack of community activities. The Spring Festival has been running now for over 50 years. (My daughter was a "Spring Princess" one year). There is a Christmas Carols on the waterfront. A musical theatre society that puts on performances that are equal to anything that you would see at QPac and plays by 2 theatre companies. Plus the Halloween Festival. The trains take you to Southbank, the City and the Valley, even the Ekka when it is on.
I have an ongoing medical condition and never had any problems getting to see a private doctor or being seen quickly at the hospital.
This person sounds like they havent done there homework or cant read a map , If you drive the long way in peak hour traffic it will ' suprise suprise " take a long time . Getting to the airport or the port of brisbane very quick and from were live 2 sets of traffic lights woosh there.
And being a salior Its just the best place to sail, but the second hand shops are very thick on the ground but I believe this to be on the mend , The cbd of wynnum does need a face lift granted but I also beileve this to be in the pipe line also . But good schools , plenty breakfast spots over looking the bay , potential plus here and very nice place to bring up children : )
I agree with you. I lived there for a couple of years. I think the people boasting about it are either trying to sell their house, a real estate agent, or they are just the kind of person that is so deluded they get the postcode tattooed to their body. (Sadly people have actually done that)
There must be some agenda here as the amount of misinformation bemuses me!
Wynnum just made the API Hot 100 Suburbs for good value, low vacancy and some of the highest rental returns in Brisbane so I would suggest this something investors WOULD look for.
As for access you have countless options to both get out of the suburb (Manly Rd, Wynnum Rd, Sibley Rd or Port of Brisbane Motorway) and get into city (Gateway, Wynnum Rd Old Cleveland Rd) with many back street options. If it takes more than 30 minutes to get to the CBD during peak hour on any given day then you are simply doing it wrong.
I would like anybody to name any other suburb in Brisbane with 3 train stations which are well supported by the Wynnum Loop bus service. Agree the bus service isn't great but why catch a bus when it's a 30 minute train ride to the CBD?
Just for clarity, we have just built our house and have no intention on selling it!
It took me at least an hour to get to the city from Wynnum. Because I had to walk for half an hour to get to the train station. The bus took the same amount of time and was just as far away. Where I live now there is a bus ever 10 minutes right next to my house. It takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. The only other area I've lived in with such bad public transport was Ipswich. Really out of the way buses and trains are not very helpful if you don't have a car and live on the edge of a suburb. I lived right next to the water. Ages from the stations and bus stops.
"Wynnum - blue chip suburb in the making"
I love Wynnum!! In my opinion it has so much untapped potential and are grateful we brought when we did! It boasts as the closest seaside suburb to the CBD, direct train line through to the city with a incredible lifestyle suburb in the making. While we could have brought within the 5 km circle we made the choice to buy in Wynnum as yet to find a suburb that offers great transport, bike tracks, walking tracks, free waterfront wading pool, incredible parks, weekend markets, fishing, beathtaking bay views, with a hugebusiness centre that with some hard work and freshbusiness ideas could be a mecca. Our family loves Wynnum and are sure it'll be blue chip suburb in years to come.

"Wynnum is both great for families & retirees"
I don't believe Queenslanders realised how wonderful a suburb like Wynnum is. It is the nearest bayside suburb to the CBD, 13 or so Km direct line and approx 18km actual distance. It also has a great train line. now that Peter Cummins (Wynnum's councillor) has provided many new family orientated parks, bikepaths and play grounds, I also believed Wynnum is no longer just for retirees. I have particulary chosen Wynnum as an area to raise my family because of the following:
*close enough but not far enough to drive or train to the CBD for work
*plenty of space and very safe for the kids and dogs
*plenty of restaurants located around Wynnum & Manly
*walks along the esplanade in the early mornings
*manly farmers market
*fishing on the pier and along the bay
*watching all the yatchs sail in and out every weekends, sometimes you get a glimpse of the dolphins swimming alongside the boats.
I am from Victoria, and suburbs this close to the CBD without actually being in the CBD is worth Millions. Quick, get in before it becomes million $ properties where only the rich can enjoy.

"Relaxed coastal lifestyle, city accessibility/amenities."
Wynnum is a fantastic place to live. It has an abundance of walking tracks, bike paths and recreational facilities. There is nothing better to unwind than wakling along the waterfront or across the mangrove boardwalk.
For the dog lovers the dog park is a must with an abundance of friendly dogs and people, your dogs will have a ball.
There is a lack of "cafe culture" in Wynnum directly but neighbouring suburb Manly has many wonderful places to enjoy a fine meal or coffee. In time Wynnum will catch up and surpass Manly but in the mean time it is a pleasant 2 minute drive along the water.
The one thing people may not be aware of is how conveniently located to the city Wynnum is. It is about 13km straight line but around 18km by car. The beauty is, in my experience, is that you avoid 99% of the traffic that plagues most people.
I use to work at West End and it took me on average 28mins to get from our house to our office at South Brisbane. The quickest trip was 22 minutes and the longest was 46 minutes (due to an accident) always during peak traffic.
I am now working at Woolloongabba and it takes me, on average, 25 minutes to get to work. I know people that live 3km from the city in suburbs like Bulimba and Paddington, and it takes them 40 minutes to get to the city.
I believe Wynnum is still Brisbane's best kept secret as when I talk to people the belief is that Wynnum is too far away. I think that being 20min from the CBD with some of the best parks, walkways and bikeways in Brisbane makes Wynnum a great place to live.
If you are thinking of coming to Wynnum, do it now before the secret gets out!
