"Like a little country village - just perfect."

I was very reluctant to move to Redland Bay - I had been transferred to work in Cleveland (from Sydney) and my employer had organised rental accommodation for me in Redland Bay. When I first searched for it on a Google Map I noticed that it was about 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD. I have always been an inner-city dweller and didn't look forward to living so far from the city.

I have now fallen in love with Redland Bay. I have no need to leave the local area or go to the city because everything I need is so close by. The big shops are just down the road at Victoria Point. From my house I can walk to the waterfront in 10 minutes and I do this on most days to unwind and to soak up the fresh air. Everything here is so clean and green and the people are so friendly and laid-back. It really feels like a country town separated from the hustle and bustle and so it's strange to think that the city is only a 1/2 hour drive away. This is a special place and I am so glad that I have been able to live here.

One day when I start a family I hope to bring them up here. The local kids ride their bikes to school (I never ever saw that in Sydney) and the kids all play safely in their front yards. Another thing I noticed is that people feel okay about leaving things out the front of their house like outdoor settings and bbqs. That tells you how safe this place is because I have never seen anyone even leave a pot plant out the front of their house where I used to live.

This place is like a hidden secret. Hopefully the council stops allowing too many more houses to be built here because it is nice and quiet and very peaceful.

Have some fish and chips by the water one day and enjoy the views and breezes. I can guarantee you'll love it in Redland Bay.

We made the mistake of leaving the Redlands to live in the north west suburbs of Brisbane to be closer to work. We are moving back after 7 years of ho-hum and at time plain unfriendly life here in BrizVegas. It's a great place to raise children.

"Stuck with mozzies, traffic and crime"

It is unfortunate this place is so poorly designed. If you want to spend 45mins each morning queuing to drive to the next suburb this is the place for you. The peak hour commute to Brisbane City (2hrs) or Logan (1.5hrs) where the only work is found is next to impossible thanks to the traffic queues and lack of public transport options just to leave the suburb. The main road to Victoria Point (where the only decent grocery shops are found) is being duplicated to 4 lanes so expect constant traffic holdups and nightly machinery noise for next few years. Rates are extortionate, we couldn’t believe the difference. Trees and parks are nice, but many have no lighting for evenings and safety. we have had problems with youths at night using these places for no good. We’ve had 5 neighbours having breakins over last couple of years just in the surrounding couple of streets, stolen burnt out cars ditched in close by bushland and scared off someone on driveway breaking into our locked car. Mozzies are a problem after rain, but we’ve found walking in these times in long sleeves/pants sufficient. Plus factors are the concreted paths for cycling and walking, not overly shaded but they do connect different estates. Overall, once you’re here it’s quite hard to get to other places so make sure you love it as you’ll be spending a lot of time essentially locked into the suburb.

Find real estate agents in Redland Bay

"Redlands a expensive under serviced back water."

Take a drive through the center of Cleveland and take note of the number of businesses closed. Council is very much pro property developers and allow anything to go. Council rates and fees are over the top for services received. Pedestrian infer structure is almost non existent with what ever priorities there are given to motor vehicles. Having said that road infer structure is poor and combined with council allowing developers to do as they please it is getting worse. Road corridors are being closed off and handed to the developers so future looks bleak. Employment opportunities are near non existent. Train to the city is slow and expensive. On a good note there are some very good state and private schools in the area.

"Great Place to come home to, but , poor travel options if you work in the city and internet from the dark ages"

Moved here around 8-9 years ago, loved the place, laid back, scenic, lots of parks, easy access to the islands nearby, yet only 30 mts to the city by road on a weekend, things have changed though, poor management means the Cleveland CBD is almost comatose, except for the restaurants by the jetty. Not very business friendly, and the slowest internet since the dial-up era, have a lot of friends complain when they visit , they love the locale and hate the connectivity, thankfully internet is 1/4 our prices abroad, if you plan to visit get onto a good roaming plan.
If you work in the city and are planning a move, get ready for the train commute and lose 2 hrs of your life each day,

Great place to visit or retire to if you like to take things slow...

"Great place to live"

Moved to Redland Bay from busy Melbourne and love it. The Bay is close by and houses are affordable for a bayside suburb. People are friendly and there are some nice parks. Infrastructure is being added with more to come with Weinum Creek and Shoreline Developments starting very soon. Currently we have the Red Edge shopping Centre which has about 15 shops and also we have Redland Bay Village which is our small town centre which is slowly growing. We had a 7Eleven and drive through coffee club open a few months ago. There is also the Donald Rd shops which has expanded to allow for more shops. The barge from Weinum creek can take you to the small islands of the mainland, furthermore Brisbane CBD is a 50 min drive and Gold Coast 45min drive.

We are looking to move to the area. I am originally from Redlands but have been on the Gold Coast for 10 years. Just wondering if Weinum Creek and Shoreline Developments are approved?

AjB1
AjB1

Shoreline is approved. Right now they are doing the road upgrades. Giles Rd intersection has just been upgraded, Double Jump and Boundary Rd are next to be upgraded. Weinum Creek development has been taken over by the Council. They have purchased a large block of land next to Weinum Creek and plan to first build car park at the moment

camillev

Thanks so much. So if you were going to purchase in the area would you recommend Weinum creek end or closer to down where Shoreline will be? Theres not much down that way atm is there?

AjB1
AjB1

Not much down where shoreline is at the moment, only farmland. There is a new estate called the crossing behind the new 7eleven in the northen end of Redland Bay. Its 4 min from Weinum creek and 4 min from Victoria Point Shopping Centre and 2 min from Redland Bay village. Or you got stage 3 of Park edge release if you want something quiter with greenery. There are some newly built houses there, its off Collins Rd at the Roundabout. Its 2 min from Rededge shops and 4 min from Redland Village and 5 from Weinum creek.

Hi- looking for a place to live moving from Melbourne. I was wondering if the beach is like st kilda/south melbourne or more like "proper" beach- ie maroochydore without the surf.
Thanks for any help

peggys2

avrilk, it's not in any way a glitzy surf beach as there are many small islands and the much larger Stradbroke Island between this area and the open ocean. It is very pretty, good for fishing and exploring but not much sand to speak of. Quite a bit of mud and mangrove, so not really popular for swimmers. Nothing at all like the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast - it has it's own quiet, winding shoreline and island-protected beauty. I absolutely love it.

lindsayo

Thinking very seriously about getting out of Victoria and heading to the beach where my wife has always wanted to live.
Perth, Hervey Bay, Tweed Heads the choices until a friend mentioned Redland Bay after having lived there.
It seems to tick all our boxes.
AFL both north and south, fishing, golf, great pub apparently, beautiful scenery, quiet lifestyle and not much crime.
Concerns are the heat. Could we handle it being from one of the coldest spots in Vic. Apparently jan/Feb is oppressive.
Midgees. Ive been told they are really bad as well. Hate those little suckers.
Are there bad parts of Redland Bay to avoid. Is there certain areas to try and live in? We are in our early 50s and still working I might add, so how is employment.
Would appreciate any advice as Im sure Covid has changed a lot of things, like it has everywhere.
Thanks.

peggys2

Redland Bay has midges, yes. At certain times of the year. But so does a million other places. I am not sure how bad but am about to find out as we are building there over next 12 months. I have lived in the Redlands region for 30 years but not in Redland Bay specifically. Council does aerial spraying of the Redlands (whether we like it or not) at certain times of the year. I have lived all over Qld and whether north, west on in the south east, would never live anywhere without screens. When midges/mossies are about, close everything up before nightfall when at their worst. There is also "technology" haha. It is the price we pay I guess but I think worth it. Speaking to the neighbours who have lived beside the block we are building, they say that mostly it is not a problem and the benefits of living by the water and the lovely pocket that it is, is well worth it. This area is moving ahead fast and a big growth area (saw this on tv and in publications several times this year). Due to affordability, quieter lifestyle and now the developments that are well progressed as mentioned in posts above. This is definitely improving infrastructure. Roads are widening (as traffic flow a bit of a pain atm), Shoreline early stages have started, Weinnam Ck area has new ferry terminal to the islands and the huge car park is complete, along with approval for residential units there. Big news is that the second of it's kind fancy concept Woolworths is due to open next year and building is well under way. First one is in Melbourne. This will undoubtedly create a big flow on of improvement to shops around. The pub is ok, great position but definitely a bit tired. Lots of character. But along with everything else, will be given a face lift at some stage. I HATE summer and I am a Queenslander but living beside the coast is about 5 degrees cooler than inland. I am only able to tolerate our summer because of air conditioning. Absolute necessity. Proximity to M1 and Gold Coast is very handy. Employment options locally are limited in Redland Bay itself. No train line which has always been a deterrent for city commuters but there is a bus service which I think will improve as population grows. And believe me, it is growing fast. I hope that we don't lose the lovely vibe that we have now. We are in our mid-late 50's and not into pubs and clubs. We like it because of the natural beauty, coastal breezes, quiet neighbourhoods and lack of high rise etc. When we move we hope to get a jet ski to explore what is literally in our front yard. We were thrilled to see two new coffee shops open recently in the area. Hope this helps.

"Great place to live"

My husband and I own two properties in Redland Bay. One we live in and the other we rent. Yes, it is a bit further away from night life etc but we don't mind that. That's why it is peaceful and we don't seem to get any yobs running around. We can go to Victoria Point, which is less than a 10 minute drive away if we want restaurants, pub and club (Sharks). Yes, I think the local pub is a bit overpriced but we can walk there and back and to be honest having visited other pubs around Brisbane they are overpriced too. We enjoy being able to go for a lovely walk along the waterside and our kids love visiting us from Brisbane. They feel it is like having a holiday. My husband travels by bus to Brisbane and enjoys being able to sit and relax on the bus rather than sitting in his car getting stressed out. Sure it does take a while but that will soon get better once all the roadworks at Macgregor have been completed. We do have a couple of cafes where you can buy a nice latte (one new cafe is open by the water now and that's great). Do we want more cafes and restaurants? Well to be honest, yes it would be nice and I think that will happen in the not too distant future, especially when Tall Trees opens and the new supermarket and shopping area is in full swing. Our investment property has always had great tenants who enjoy the Redland Bay lifestyle. Victoria Point is good for shopping, there are 3 supermarkets there: Woolworths, Coles and Aldi (although to be honest I haven't visited Aldi because I have never felt the need to). If I want to go and get some retail therapy Carindale is not that far away - 30 minutes by car. We don't regret our move to this area and are both very happy.

Great for

  • No yobs hanging around
  • Safe pub within walking distance
  • Fishing, Boating and Sports
  • Growing fast with room to move
  • Relaxed lifestyle
  • A lot of homes have spectacular water views
  • No traffic

Not great for

  • 15 miniute drive to the train station
  • Needs a closer supermarket and retail shops
  • Not a lot of buses

Do you pay alot for rates....?

suechat

I think that the rates are higher than say more established areas - that's normally the case because you are paying for all the new services

Carly

Rates are expensive. Our recent rate bill was $726 for a three month period. I have relatives who live in Redland Bay and their bill is exactly the same. It costs about $60.50/week and this is after I have restricted water usage.

debbieb12

Our rates are $889. and climbing not sure about any new sevices ,have been living here for 29 years .But is a great place to live

"The longer you live here the better it gets"

With work I have lived and worked in many suburbs around Brisbane and North Queensland.
It is by far the best suburb in Brisbane but I dont like to tell to many people that, Or they will all want a piece of it.
Yes there's an extra 20 minutes to get any where. But 20 minute take you further away from that summer ocean breeze we get nearly every night.
Theres not to many suburbs in Brisbane you can walk along the water front. If you have a boat you can be on a beach all to your self with in the matter of minutes.
Put the boat in the water head to the Gold Coast or stop at the many Resturants that have boat facilities on the way.
I know numerous people that elect to travel by bus every day to the city for work.
Buses run from Redie Bay to Cleveland if you need a train.
Very good cliental for rental properties

Great for

  • No traffic
  • Friendly Local Police with regular patrols
  • Little crime (petty)
  • Fishing, Boating and Sports
  • Relaxed lifestyle

Not great for

  • Not set up for tourist

"A bit far out, overpriced for what it is, nice but over rated"

Redland Bay is a east side coastal town of brisbane, it is around 40kms to the city, there is no trainline and very bad bus service which renders the public transport as virtually NIL. There is a small expensive convenience style shopping centre in Redland Bay itself, a Bank Of Queensland Branch, a few realestate agencies, newsagent and a fruit shop as well as one pub which has a monopoly of the whole area and charges accordingly to that.

There a re a massive amount of Houses on the Market at present and around the neighbourig suburbs, a quick review on some recent sales compared to when those same houses sold in 2007/2008 and the same ones were sold for less than what they were pruchased for 4 years ago, very bad growth as a lot of development went up and as is the case everywhere when this happens, they were overpriced off the plan and it will take another 3-4 years before they catch up with the market.

A lot of mangroves and morton bay figs prevent good water views so I would be careful buying a house based on water views unless they are direct as I have spoken to afew locals who HAD water views but as the suburb grows, more houses go up and trees reach maturity, the water views have diminished.

Nearby Victoria Point has an excellent shopping centre, but if you dont want to drive be prepared to pay a bomb for a cab as it will cost you $5 to sit in it and over $2 a kilometre as well as 70c a minute waiting time at lights, traffic etc, people move out there to have a nicer house for their money but rates are expensive, over $70 a week for rates, that has hurt a lot of people in this area, top it off with over priced restaurants and domination of Coles and Woolworths and you can see the picture, not to mention you will need your car to go everywhere and as petrol hits $1.50 a litre it starts to add to the bottom line. Sure you save $200k on a house of choice but if your rates are double that of most suburbs and your petrol bill and wear and tear on your car is 3 fold then is it really that much cheaper? Not to mention the time you will spend in traffic which is horrendous at peak hour as there are no public transport options so everyone drives to get to work, school and shopping.

Avoid at all costs as a investment area, the expensive council rates make it a bad investment, if you buy a house for $400k, you will get $370 a week tops, once you take out $35 agent fees, $70 rates, $20 Insurance and $20 repairs that will leave you $225 to put towards your $600 mortgage repayment, ad seeing houses are still declining then the smart ones are renting as why would you pay all that money when you can rent with no responsibility or at least buy in a different area with not as many overheads and a much better rent return, this is one of the reasons why houses sit on the market there for so long and there are so many on the market, there are a number of houses that have been on the market for over 18 months, some have reduced their asking price by over $200k, check it yourself.

The publci schools are beyond bad, thats why there are so many private schools in a 5km radius of each other, expect to pay $3k a year for Rita's, $8k a year for Faith Lutheran and over $10k a year for Sheldon College as well as Redlands College, Ormiston private school is not far and is equally as expensive, the public schools are not up to scratch by a long shot.

Lots of medical centres in Victoria point but most do not bulk bill and hard and pulling hens teeth to get in as there are about 15 retirement villages around and an endless convoy of them going to and from the doctors surgery makes it hard when you have small kids who's needs for doctors can ot be planned.

One of my friends daughters broke her arms at After school care at Faith at 3.30pm and only got seen at the local hospital at 8pm at night, she had to sit there in the waiting room holding her daughters arm for over 4 hours, to me, that is frightening, the response was, that this was quick for them.

Nice looking area, nice if you have a boat, bad if you have to work in the city, bad for state schools, you need to be above middle income to afford all the extras that you will be be hit with in this area.

Do your homework on house values before you buy, because if you have to sell due to unseen circumstances within a 2 year perios you will end up owing money.

Retirement heaven, think twice if your thinking of raising a family there and you dont have buckets of money to spend every week.

Great for

  • Fishing, Boating and Sports

Not great for

  • I would say 25 minute to train station at Cleveland
  • Mainly retirees
  • Expensive schools and expensive council rates $70pw
  • 15 miniute drive to the train station
  • Needs a closer supermarket and retail shops
  • Not a lot of buses

If you don't like it stay away. You make it sound as though the Redlands is the only place in Australia where house prices are down, petrol it up, Private schools are expensive, hospitals are struggling to cope blah blah blah. Get out of your bubble and have a look around. The reason we choose to live here is because to the people, the lifestyle and because it is awat from the city. If all these issues you discussed are concerning you, good luck finding your 'perfect' place to live. You obviously have high expectations and didn't do your research before you moved to the area if you have so many complaints about the place. Think about it: no train line, less crime; no major shopping centre in Redland Bay, less traffic; more schools, better options. By the way 10k a year for private schooling such as Sheldon and Ormiston is very reasonable (Rated as some of QLD's best). Once again do your research and compare around Brisbane. Most of the people here love it and if they don't, well they move. I suggest you do the latter.

I know Redland bay well.
I was at Redland Bay only today. Caught the ferry out to the islands for a meeting and on returning had great meal in a fantastic environment. Redland Bay is a totally wonderful place with so much going for it.
Sure there is quite a bit of development going on which makes some areas a bit ugly right now but thats just proof of how popular it is. My OPINION is that Redland Bay will surpass the other Bayside suburbs by a good margin in the not too distant future and if I'm wrong, the residents there will be just as happy.

blahdeeblah

We stayed in a stayz house at mill street, visiting a relative at Victoria Point, I agree that private schools are expensive, but when the locals told me they had no choice as the state schools were so bad as a lot of vagrants come over from the islands, then obviously there is an issue, by the way, this was the "locals" who explained this to me. I belive the area is lovely, it is just overpriced, lots of houses ahve been reduced by tens of thousands, one place over $300k reduction. A family with 3-4 kids would struggle to send all their kids to a private school, and why should kids be disadvantaged by having a choice of a bad public schoo;l because parents can not afford expensive fees. There is no excuse for bad schools, they all get the same government funding. You say there is less crime, I agree, I know my sister has not had any issue at all at Victoria Point, but one reviewer of Victoria Point, the next suburb, said she had 3 breakins, her daughter terrorised and a bike stolen! That is pretty bad crime rate if that review is completely true. Sheldona nd Ormiston are 15-20 minutes away from Redland Bay, long way to go to get to school everyday. I actually think it is a lovely place to holiday, but I feel sorry for the people who are losing hand over fist on property there at the moment, I saw one listing that is reduced by over $700k this morning. I agree with you totally on the area, but it would be better to rent than to buy here at the moment, that is just how it is, and if your into being "green" well, you have to drive everywhere, as the bus service is shocking and random.

raychs

Are the rates really that bad.... can anyone else shed some light on this ?

golfers

the rates are maybe a bit exy for the services available but pretty much in line with the surrounding areas. The person who commented above you is just a total nut case. she used to be called ihatetraffic. if you like to laugh, search her profile (both names) and read her reviews and the comments. she knows everything about everywhere. A real looney

Carly

The rates are really expensive. I don't know what for half the time. They've forgotten to pick up my rubbish bin more than once and if you call Council after 24 hours, they can't help you, you have to empty it yourself. When we first bought in the area, rates bill came to about $820 for 3 months, but I have restricted water usage by my family and our recent bill was $726 for 3 months. It's more expensive than electricity and electricity is a fair wack. The way these rates bills are going, I will have paid $2900 annually. Which is insane.

Redland Bay has Changed over the past year or so, we have had a 7 eleven and drive through Coffee Club now open with more shops comming. The Donald Rd shops had a small expansion done to bring in more future shops. More housing estates comming and more people moving in. Road upgrades are now occuring with more to come with the shoreline developnent. With Thornlands and Cleveland now out of price for quite a few people, more people are moving to Redland Bay.

"Sea change type lifestyle"

Love it - My wife & I moved here 2.1/2 years ago from Mackay, due to work transfers. I initially had my doubts moving to the big smoke from our beloved Mackay. All doubts & misgivings are now erased, since living in Redland Bay. The weather is mild & perfect, the neighbourhood is friendly & quiet, the suburbs & township exude a lay back, relaxed lifestyle. Also plenty on offer for everyone around the area :- parks, fishing, lovely old pub & of course, the nearby bay islands. We'll both be retiring from the workforce in the next couple of years & we couldn't think of a more perfect spot to spend our twilight years than the Redland Bay area.

So I know its been a year since this post, me and my husband are thinking about relocating to Brisbane from Mackay. We love the laid back feeling of mackay and would like to get that as much as possible in Brisbane. Would you still recommend Redland Bay? If so are there specific areas that are better than others? I was looking into Victoria Point. We have 2 kids under the age of 5 so that would obviously be something we need to look into as well.

We moved back here after being away for over four years. We love it. The only concern is the public schools, the decent ones are in catchment areas so maybe look at that factor.

hi there, what is the go with the schools? we are considering moving down to the redlands/wellington point/Cleveland area next year, and would need to find a good public school with good support services.... anyone?

"Breath in the salt air and the glorious bay views!"

Every days a holiday in Redland Bay! It is a fabulous lay back lifestyle without the hassle of traffic, but enjoys a cosmopolitan feel. Big things are planned for Redland Bay too in the future with our local village expanding and the heritage listed Hotel overlooking the blue waters of Moreton Bay is just the place to kick back and listen to a band on a Sunday afternoon. We have lived in the area for 12 years, originally at Victoria Point, but the homes are generally older and we wanted something new. Years ago, Redland Bay was a sleepy semi rural place for retirees. Everyone bought produce direct from the local farmers. We where famous for strawberries from our rich red volcanic earth. Today, it is a very different place. Most of the homes in Redland Bay are less than 10 years old and 20,000 other families are enjoying what we have always known. "Life is for living!" With the aqua waters and silver sands of countless islands just a 20 miniute ferry ride away, lifestyle is what it is all about. We have great shopping complexes just a few minuites away, with Kmart, Bunnings, Cinema's, and a huge Restraunt precinct around the lake. Fishing, boating and shopping are everyone's pass times. There are plenty of state and private colleges for the kids and lots of parks. The average size building block is over 600m2 too which gives everyone room to play. There are also many lifestyle complexes for retirees as well. Some of these are right on Thompsons Beach. So saddle up friends, and come to where the livin is easy!

"Beautiful friendly place to live"

I love Redland Bay we have lived here for over 10 years now, it really is a beautiful and friendly place to bring up children. The country-style atmosphere is lovely which is why we moved there, it was similar to where we come from orignally. (a little beachside town in Mid North coast NSW).
It is nice to bump into friendly faces. Our child has just started school this year and is loving it - as do we, we have met many other families who all enjoy our area. It really is diverse in age groups so there is something here for everyone to do and enjoy!
Markets, bushwalking, fishing, islands closeby, shopping, and entertainment, arts & crafts, sporting clubs resturants etc list goes on!

"Youve been warned"

Don't move there, don't even think about thinking about moving there. It's a dump and we supposedly live in the good part. My son is being bullied at school and the local high school is worse.
I was on the bus to Vicky Point (the only decent shops) and the bus stopped to pick up a teenager. "I've got no money and no bus pass" he says. "So you're walking" the driver replied. This little darling flicked him the bird and said "F@@k you!!!" before storming off.
The local pub is a dump and if it's seen a lick of paint in twenty years I'd be amazed. We decided to take our kids for lunch but were so appalled by the decor we left after one drink.
The locals I've met are mostly friendly but there's also those who aren't.
Go to Cleveland, it's a much nicer place all round.

I am sorry you are unhappy. This life style is not for everyone, but if I were to make a sweeping observation as you have, I would say you are from NSW or VIC. If your unhappy, with the conduct of a few children, then as a parent you must know your course of action. I am sure bad behaviour also happens in other suburbs?.....just my opinion. The Redland Bay Hotel by the way is hertitage listed, hence their inability to turn it into a Sushi Bar with slot machines. The wheels of progress turn slowly. And that, my irritable friend, is why most of us like it here!

We are moving back to the Redlands after living in Brisbane for 7 years and can't wait to get back there. Kids are rude everywhere! At least the kid didn't assault the bus driver which would probably happen in some of Sydney's suburbs and Melbourne's. There are nice bistros and cafes at the Victoria Point Mall. Try those instead.

"What a spot"

Its rear to find an area 30 mins from a major city that maintains that friendly, community feel about it. Redland Bay is just that. Great open park areas and walkways, friendly locals and plenty of great food options. Sometimes neglected by local council which may be a blessing and a reason the area maintains its charm. A truly top spot to live.

"The best place on Earth!"

This little town is magnificent. Stick to the newer areas if you want the best because I hear there are a few unsavoury types in the older southern spots near Pt Talburpin. Other than that if you are lucky enough to find yourself a house in one of the newer spots then you've won the jackpot. I have a boat so I go out on the bay a lot. It's just superb out on the water and just as good on the land. I can walk to the village shops from my house so it's really convenient. The best butcher and fruit shop in the Redlands is there and theres everything else you needs like banks, post office, bakery, supermarket and lots of really good restaurants and yes I've tried them all. My kids are all grown up now but they still love coming back here for a break. They feel like they are on a holiday when they get to Redland Bay. They grew up here and have the best memories of the place. I notice the young ones now still playing in the streets and they have the movies to go to at Victoria Point if they get bored. I will be retiring in a few years and this will be where I'll stay. I've got the best neighbours and I sleep at night with all my windows open in summer so that I can get the fresh breezes. Never been broken into and my neighbours have never had any break-ins either. We all look out for each other. Top spot here at Reddy Bay. And the local's the best I've ever been to with a great menu for all ages. No more video shop though don't know what happened but I get all my movies of the web now so its fine by me. Redland Bay = Perfection.

Unfortunately your comment in relation to the southern area of Redland Bay shows your lack of knowledge of the area. The southern end of Redland Bay is where all the most expensive & exclusive new estates are and the better older estates. The area behind the old shops at Redland Bay shopping village are the least expensive and house more rentals than most areas. I do agree Redland Bay is a sensational spot though

If you read my review I said Dart St.South Boundary St (the area between Marine St and Boundary St..
I do have good local knolage of the area as I live here. The Street now is quiet the people moved away as they do in all rental area's. I was not talking of the area (NORTH) of Boundary Street heading towards North St. That area is the most expensive & exclusive new estates. I was talking about the old area.(SOUTH) of Boundary READ my review properly. (To point out which way north is Victoria Poin t is north of Redland Bay)

Hi, I am looking at a place near Pt Talburpin (older area), can you elaborate on the "unsavoury types" as walking around Pt Talburpin it looks like a fantastic area?

"DONT MOVE TO JANIA ST"

There are some loud people on the CNR of Jania and Phillip st with no respect for anyone. Music is way to loud and unreasonable times and there dogs are a pain in the butt.

"Think very carefully before moving to Shaw Place"

Some very lovely families living there who have to suffer verbal abuse and physical violence from a few unpleasant delinquent children who seem to delight in upsetting others

"Perfect for young families"

Our family of 5, with three young kids, have lived in Redland Bay for 5 years. Prior to this, we were living in an inner-city Brisbane suburb.

To put it simply, Redland Bay is a paradise for our family. We're far away enough from the hustle and bustle, but it's still only a 35 minute drive to Brisbane CBD if we ever need to get there. We're also about 45 minutes from the Gold Coast, so it's not too far away from those lovely beaches. The bay breezes on warm summer days are amazing and you feel like you live in a small village when you visit the local shops and are greeted by the happy, friendly staff.

There are some lovely parks around for the kids and we've recently heard that the park on the foreshore will be getting renovated and updated, so that'll be great when it's done.

Neighbours are friendly and helpful, without being intrusive - privacy is always respected. In the last 5 years, we haven't experienced any issues with hoons or crime and it's nice to walk around your suburb and see the pride that people take in keeping their gardens and homes looking fantastic.

We'll stay here until the kids are grown-up and, even after then, we'll probably still hang around. It's just a peaceful, clean, safe and gorgeous area to live in!

"Very laid back, village atmosphere, close community, excellent for bringing up children"

I lived in Redland Bay for 4 - 5 years and never, ever had any problems. Neighbours were/are extremely nice, thoughtful and caring about everybody in the street, we all helped each other out, but didn't live in each others pockets. The local shopping centre is a very village like atmosphere with friendly shopkeepers. The streets and parks are clean and there doesn't seem to be alot of hooning going on, especially in the little streets where kids play. I loved living there and would move back in a heartbeat if I could.

We are moving back after 7 years here in Brisbane with unfriendly neighbours and generally a not nice community at all. And I am never leaving again! The Redlands is just a great place overall.
